What’s on your 2026 reading list?

Follow that with his “Uhuru”. Not quite a sequel but perhaps even more prescient

    Daily Disciplines

I’m just trying to live long enough to do all the dumb shit I’ve thought up

    Hosted Trips...What's next???

Understood at the time we talked and I hope I didn't come across as if I was finding any fault with Outrider...I was not. And...yes...emailing Jeff now!

What’s on your 2026 reading list?

Working my way through "Men at War" compiled by Hemingway, an overlooked item of his. From the Bible, to Xenophon, to Churchill, to Kipling...from Caesar's invasion of Britain, the trenches of WWI, the German invasion of Sweden, the Alamo, etc. it is a remarkably broad and beautiful collection...

Best dive bar you’ve ever been to and why it deserves a monument

Oooo....Soggy Dollar in Jost Van Dyke? Sail/swim up beach, no dock...thus the name. Sand and beach is among the best in the world.

    Hosted Trips...What's next???

Already in there...in Namibia and Kili....I've been trying to do Namibia but Outrider wants a whole group to book together, not one offs...I'm a loner. If you've got a bunch of guys I'd love to talk and put a group together.

    Hosted Trips...What's next???

Pronghorn rifle trip, trips aligned with Western values/history/culture/adventure--say a group guide of the remote churches/cathedrals of Ethiopia, Guided trip of relevant locations of the Holy Land, etc., true expeditions--lets call it a walking/horse/LandRover trip from sea to source of the...

Books that shaped your outlook on adventure or manhood.

I'm going to go off the board Alex. I could repeat Hemingway and Ruark and McCarthy...or I could go more highbrow and cite Lawrence's "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" or Gilgamesh or Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" or Ayn Rand or Thoreau....I won't. :) A handful in no particular order, works that...

Field Ethos stories that hit hardest. What stuck with you?

Doug Patteson's recent work on his wife. Perhaps the most meaningful item I've seen from FE: https://fieldethos.com/remarkably-ordinary/

Travel horror stories. The ones that make for great bar talk later.

Can confirm this and I'll add...follow the local conditions there for the haboobs (dust storms coming off the Sahara). Why? Because at last note the Lagos airport doesn't have electronics necessary to get big planes in and out under bad conditions. Thus...a one week stay at the Radison Blu...

Best dive bar you’ve ever been to and why it deserves a monument

Tiny no name bar with no doors or windows, right over the Rio Grande in Boqillas Del Carmen Mexico.

Best Value Bourbons Right Now? Anyone?

If price is an issue…which is odd given the rate of bankruptcies and distillery closures at the moment….I suggest Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (green label) or Evan Williams Black. Both super cheap, both remarkably drinkable at that price and and I’ll put on a peer with anything twice as much...

What’s your favorite piece of FE clothing?

Patteson jacket...and not just because I took a class from Doug but because its windstopper and water repellent nature is a fantastic shoulder season item but because at $100ish it outclasses and outpaces similar items I have from NF and others at a significantly lower price point.
