Son and I ventured north for an affordable meat bull hunt in Alberta. Our new Fierce bolt gun in 7 Backcountry was pushing the 175 gr Fusion bullet out of the 20” barrel at 2985 fps. Son Dropped the bull at 517 yards with single shot; bullet found on the inside of opposite hide; 89% retention.

Worst part of trip: Canadian liquor stores not stocking American bourbons to protest tariffs.

Best part: watching my son make a stellar 517 yard shot on a bull moose in sideways rain, cold, and hangry…. Priceless.

Can you share more info on this hunt? Guided or diy? Logistics? Cost when you say “affordable”? More pics? Thanks and congrats!
You bet. Outfitter was identified through WTA,: https://alberta-moose-hunts.com/ Frank Martens is the owner / Operator. He took us 1x1, and I paid an extra $800 as an observer. My son and I had an entire house to ourselves, with living room, kitchen, laundry, and bath. food was good. Frank took us out personally to great spots for the first two mornings where we had cow moose come in to 80 yards and bulls grunting within earshot, but by day 3 he took us to another spot and we connected. He spends his entire year checking cameras and flying the areas in his unit to keep track of the bulls. It was about $8k for the trip, not including tips and travel; we drove there and back from Oregon. Border crossing were no problem. After Frank boned it out the morning of our departure, we left with 405 pounds of gorgeous meat in our coolers. Go direct with me if you want more travel / plan details.
