Just bought a bench rest bag. Anything in particular I should fill it with or just hardware store sand?

Might want to consider dry beans or even rice, as pliable, way lighter.

Depends on what you want it to do. For pure bench use, I’d want it as heavy as possible. If you’re going to use it in the field also, you’ll definitely want a lighter fill.

For a really heavy bench bag, I filled mine with sand blasting abrasive, it's called Black Beauty around here.

Graded just right, won't adsorb moisture, won't rot, and is very dense.

Poly bead fill works well for a field bag. Stays light, won't absorb moisture, plyable.

Bench use only. Granted never say never, but essentially no field use.
