I really enjoy these "Order of Rogues" episodes. I've always enjoyed watching or listening to someone, anyone, who's good at what they do, whether it's an athlete, a fellow SWAT teammate, an entertainer, a truck driver, the pizza guy or a mom throwing a shoe... I enjoy watching someone doing something they are damn good at, and these guys are the tops in their industry. I like listening to the candid conversation, the insights into the industry from these two icons who have been involved for years.
Schoby is spot on when he discusses the differences in journalism between the era of O'Connor and Elmer Keith vs. today.
I have some experience within the outdoor media industry and have written many articles for smaller publications such as Fishing and Hunting News, Northwest Sportsman, Varmint Hunter Magazine, Horns and Hooks, Western Shooting, Hunting Illustrated, Sportsman's News, etc. and participated in some Sportsman's Channel episodes, predator hunting and fishing for trophy pike in Saskatchewan. One of my biggest gripes about the industry is how its advertiser driven... the advertisers drive the content. Articles become senseless drivel ejaculating about how wonderful a product is, or a lodge is, etc. Shows become a full-length feature advertisement for some product or manufacturer which may or may not be as good as the "star" professes.
These "rogues" unapologetically and casually discuss this topic specifically. I appreciate hearing from Vincent about the direction he and the team at FE are steering the publication and the FE Brand. I look forward to the publications; I look forward to the content and appreciate the candid, direct, honest discussions, the integrity they bring, and I respect the staff's professional expertise and experience. I believe and I think this "society" (FE Society) is evidence that there is a market for quality like that. Their discussion about quality and their example of the Rigby rifles vs others that will "also shoot" was illustrative of the truth. It's why I'm teetering on the fence regarding Rigby... I'm still young enough I enjoy and want to use my balls, but I'm nearing the age where I'm just about willing to give my left nut in order to have a Rigby! I'm envious of these men who own "several" and talk about their Rigby's gouges and scars as though they're just another Sears and Roebuck shotgun! lol...
I also enjoyed hearing Schoby talk about his WSU roots and education, hunting the Gloyd Seeps area and Yakima River canyon. It gives him "street cred" with me, because only an avid outdoorsman who has walked that ground and cherished the creatures that inhabit it would even know about those places. These are the very places I still frequent and appreciate today.

From one rogue to all you others, keep it up! you're making a showing, and you're making a difference! I appreciate you all!

Amen.

Just finished brewing Chemex pot #2, while reading the open page of what's left of '26 Vol1 from a dog shredding exercise, and it's open to the "Doctorate of Entitlement" @Jason Vincent penned for it. I then get an FE text follow up on their 09MAR delivery of FE excellence; FnA, timing. The FE blades are sharpening. I joke about "Where's my box...." knowing damn well the FE men and women behind THESE scenes hunt/fish/hike/camp/ride/travel SAME as we do.

About 15ish years ago I stopped being an Instructor for NRA and Mas Ayoob Group; WAY too much entitlement crap behind the scenes, but I began hearing those 2 most dangerous words an Instructor hears in the classroom/range lines WAY to much fr a "student". " I know....." usually followed by some derivation of you're going to pass me/give me the creds/you're not going to kick me out too are you?

Point a gun at my face twice in one day, you're done for the day, banned for 6 mos., go Fng think about it somewhere else. Then , the "Coordinator" wants to know why, because there's $$$ walking out the door; Sometimes, in my off days, I put people into body bags for usually being DEATHly stupid....because they were given a LONG leash of entitlement somewhere else.

So, which Rigby do you want specifically? Thank You FE for another opportunity at opening some eyes. Again...

"So, which Rigby do you want specifically?"

Lol, since I'm dreaming, a LH bolt Rigby "big game" rifle chambered in .375 H&H... Don't ask me "why?" just 'cause... I really don't need it, and have never been on a guided hunt in my life despite hunting Alaska and several of the states in the lower 48... only because guided hunts were generally cost prohibitive to me and I enjoy DIY, so it's not like I'm planning on taking it to Africa, but maybe one day...

Thank you for that Al. Man those spots all still hold a fond spot in my heart. Even though I live in Montana, I have been thinking about returning to Washington in the fall just to re-walk some of that ground. And I have been thinking about spending more time chasing Roosevelts and blacktail on the coast again as well.
