We love marrying old school classics with some modern touches. When we first teamed up with the team at Magnum Research for a collaboration project, we immediately knew we wanted to do something in the BFR lineup. We’re all fans of big-bore revolvers, and no one has more fun with those than the team in charge of the BFRs. The mad scientist for revolvers at Magnum Research is Brett Pikula. Working with him, we came up with one of our favorite FE collaborations to date.

Using their .454 Casull base gun, we opted for some upgrades like their complete Nitride finish, the No. 5 frame, Tyler Gun Works Bastogne walnut grips, jeweled hammer and trigger, gold bead front sight, octagonal barrel, lanyard loop, and unfluted cylinder. Arguably the biggest upgrade comes with the top strap cut for a direct-mount ACRO. What we ended up with is a gun that is as much at home as a BBQ gun as it is in a chest rig accompanying you in the backcountry.

Our Biggest, Finest Collab

One of the first things you’ll notice when you handle this gun is how overbuilt it is. It’s not shocking considering these BFRs are best known for being chambered in some extreme calibers. From the loading gate to the smooth, audible and tactile clicks of the action, you immediately know this gun is built to handle any backcountry load you can put in the cylinder.

The ACRO makes a huge difference for fast sight acquisition on your follow-up shots. I like to put a straight line across the top of my red dots to aid in tracking my dots, and this setup would be a perfect candidate with the way the gun rolls up in your hand during shooting. If you want or need to have this gun without the dot, you can simply remove it temporarily and it’s back to being a standard, non-optic-cut BFR.

A Bespoke BFR

Overall, the FE x Magnum Research BFR is the best take on a hard-use, classic single-action design with some modern touches. It’s a gun you can happily hand down for generations to come, and it will be a timeless addition to your collection.

Price: $5,899, available exclusively through Magnum Research’s Pre-Built Customs.

Pros: How can you beat an incredible looking, overbuilt, classic single-action revolver with an ACRO on top?

Cons: Because Brett Pikula hand-builds each of these, we are only able to release these in smaller batches, and they will sell out quickly. Stay tuned on our Instagram for updates and releases.
