What’s everyone running?

I’ve been running a StealthCam Deceptor on 8 double A’s since November and it’s still working like a champ. Shows full charge todaywhich is hard to believe, but I can’t complain.

I would like to find a camera platform that works just as well, and can send a text message notification.

Stealthcam Fusion Max 2 on 16 double As. I give the battery life 7/10. If the signal gets weak it tends to drain the batteries pretty quickly which happened twice last season with one of my cameras. Battery life is also highly dependent on the image capture frequency to which you set the camera. If a herd of deer are parked in front of your camera chowing down on corn for 10 minutes and you have it set to take pictures in three shot bursts every 2 seconds, your batteries are toast.

Text notification feature is awesome and immensely distracting. Image quality is fine - obviously not so great in foggy or overly damp conditions.

I will say that these cameras have proven to be hardy as two of them have continued to function after being attacked by my nemesis, Sammy the black bear. He bit into the motion sensor on one, opened it, pulled the batteries out, and left it open during a massive rainstorm. I dried it out, put the batteries back in, turned it back on and it still functions as well as the day I got it. Sammy then turned to a second camera the next valley over and ripped the antenna off. I ordered a new antenna and, after putting it on, the unit is still functioning just fine.

So, after watching Pod X with Geoff, he mentions Tactacam which has (2) brand systems under their umbrella; Reveal and defend.

Which one is the most luddite friendly for urban property security?

I'm a big fan of Moultrie Cameras, relatively inexpensive, excellent clarity and range especially after dark is terrific, battery life is as good as any, and their motion sensing is great!

I have a few Spartan units which are great cameras but I'm currently searching for something else. My problem is no cell service on the homestead and I really need to figure out a way to get some realtime images. There's some new technology out there that allows you to daisy chain cameras to a master sending unit that I might try but I need to make sure they're returnable.
