One time, I smuggled a rifle into Botswana.

On our last trip to South Africa, this past June, one of my target critters was a hippo. The permit for the hippo from South Africa never materialized. My PH buddy Geoffrey hatched a wee bit of a scheme. We'll go to Bots. If we shoot the hippo, he'll import it to South Africa under his name, then export it to the USA in mine. Cool, says I. So we wrap the rifle up in some beach towels, stow it under the back seat of the Land Cruiser, cross the border and hope for the best. Made it! Sadly even though we tried several nights for the hippo, I never got one. I did however shoot 3 warthogs in an orange grove with my rifle. A Gunwerks "Skuhl" chambered in 375 Ruger. Then we smuggled it back out of Bots and carried on.
