I applied for and recieved Mexican residency a couple years ago for the sole purpose of no longer having to do gun paperwork on frequent trips. As a citizen and or a resident you can legally have 10 guns for hunting and self defense. Adding guns and removing guns from the list is possible but not advisable. My attorney strongly recommended that I pick the 10 guns I would keep there forever.

There were a few rules
No more than 1 handgun. The largest legal caliber for semi auto's is 380acp. The largest legal caliber for single shot and revolvers is 38 special.
No 5.56 (if it's stamped .223 it's good to go), military-styled semi auto rifles must be less than .30 cal. No 50 BMG.

What would ya'll choose today for the only 10 guns you will ever be able to own.

.327 mag revolver.
12 gauge semi
12 gauge pump
.357 mag revolver
.357 lever
.22 mag rifle
.22 mag revolver
.30-30 lever
.45-70 lever
.308 bolt gun

You now have everything to deal with anything possible in Mexico. While we would all prefer something belt fed and a Glock 17 with something from aimpoint down there this list would suffice.....

I think I would go one solid j-frame just to make sure I had my EDC straight. Then levers, bolt runs and shotguns to meet your needs. One shotgun as a defender or hybrid hunter/defender. Find a .223-marked semi-auto for defense. A .357 lever-gun pairs with the revo for ammo versatility. So I like that.

Kind of fascinating to mull over really.

It was one of the most difficult decisions of my life 🤣

Congratulations on your residency! I've got a couple buddies that did that. It only makes sense if you spend a lot of time there.
As for the ten guns my choices are as follows:

Sig P238 (you will be hard pressed to find a smaller, more concealable, more reliable semi in a 380 ACP package.)

Either a Bliksem shorty or a Mossberg 590 retro ... Because sometimes you might need a street sweeper in the dusty backstreets of Nuevo Laredo

Any lever action of your choice, but I would go with at least one modernized/tactical one like the Henry Crusr and another like the Marlin Dark Series. One in 30-30 and the other in 45-70. (Completely accessorized of course)

A Nordic Components Gilboa DBR Double Barreled AR in.223, because you are in Mexico and why not?

A S&W lever gun in 357/38 Special

A pre 64 Mod 70 Win in 270... Because South of the border everyone needs to channel their inner Jack O'Connor on a Mexican Mule Deer Hunt for Muy Grande!

A fully suppressed, AR in 22 LR with thousands of rounds.

A customized bolt action 338 Lapua with superior optics because who knows when you might have to do some hard target interdiction!

This rounds out my list. I'll be down in Cabo again in August for my girlfriend's bestie's 40th birthday party. Let me know where you are and which gun I can borrow while I'm down there! 😂

I meant to type, a Bliksem Shorty AND a 590 Retrograde.. because on the Dusty backstreets of Nuevo Laredo sometimes one street sweeper isn't enough!

A P238 was in contention. I went with a Glock 25 though.

I skipped the 22 rifle. It is one of my biggest regrets.
