Sig Romeo-X Closed Emitter

By Ron Dan

Pistol red dots are here to stay. If you’re still on the fence about the validity of red dots on a handgun or still holding out on making the transition, you probably just haven’t received the right education on it. Ten years ago, if someone showed you their go-to defensive carbine with just iron sights, you would question the validity of that build. The same applies to a solid defensive handgun today. Optics technology and quality have advanced significantly since we first started putting red dots on pistols, improving greatly even in the past 10 years for slide-mounted optics. If you have a defensive bedside gun, duty gun, or anything bigger than an ultra-compact carry gun, you should run an optic on it.

SIG entered the optics scene in 2015 with a big splash. They immediately brought on some of the industry’s biggest names and secured a red dot contract with the FBI by 2016, which is ridiculously fast for a new optics brand. Since then, they have continued to expand their offerings and improve their products. As pistol optics shift toward enclosed emitters and often use the K footprint, SIG developed the Romeo-X Enclosed Compact red dot. Knowing the high level of SIG optics, I immediately ordered one for my CZ Shadow 2 Carry.

SIG Optics Romeo-X Enclosed Compact

The Romeo X Enclosed is a great design for my personal style of carry. I ensure optics are properly installed, zero them, put witness marks on them to make sure everything stays in place, and then I beat the life out of my equipment with little attention given to it. After a year of regular carry and range sessions, this optic has performed flawlessly with no hiccups in harsh conditions.

The Romeo X Enclosed dots are available with red dots, green dots, and circle-dot variants in 3 MOA and 6 MOA. The adjustments/controls are intuitive and simple. They are also available for a Delta Point Pro footprint if you need that option. A big improvement over some competitors is the ability to change the battery without removing your optic from its mounted position. The optic includes everything needed for installation, but our Do Everything Kit definitely helps meet the proper torque specs.

Overall, this optic is my go-to for anything requiring the K footprint. The enclosed emitter provides the protection and durability I need for a defensive tool, and its added size is negligible on my carry guns. Between the two units I have, these have faced regular carry and high round counts with no issues.

Price: MSRP is $479.99.

Pros: This is a durable, quality red dot that meets all my needs for a carry optic.

Cons: These aren’t available in an RMR footprint, which may limit some applications.
