I second Wiley on Barra, I went down there last spring and scored a week of super fun waves. Barra is a machine, there is a reason why it became so well known after it was put on the map by the Rip Curl search event years ago.
There are also a handful of other great waves in the area that fly low under the radar.
I definitely recommend hiring a local guide while you are there. Wiley put me in touch with his guy when i went on my trip, and it really made a difference, he also had access to some locked gate waves that were empty.
We had a nice AirBnB in Hualtuco, but there are some places to stay at right near Barra.

Send me a message and I can give you the guides contact and a link to the AirBnB we used….

@Terry Houin @Wiley Watson @Pete Correale

Surf Report:
Went to Zicatela and got absolutely pummeled by the waves. A surfer drowned there ~4 days before I got there. I just got thrashed by those waves.
Best food I've had in a long time.

On an interesting note, I wore a watch rated only to 100m WR, a Tissot chronograph without screwdown crown and had no issues. That settles that for me.
