I’m on the hunt for my first revolver, and it only seems fitting to get a J-Frame. What are some favorite models? I’m think the model 340 PD with no internal lock.

Try one of the new 32 H&R ultimate carry revolvers - 432 UC or 632 UC. You might not want to shoot the 340 PD very much with anything more than a standard pressure 38 wadcutter. The 32 also gives you 6 shots vs 5 on the 340 without giving up terminal ballistics and penetration.I’m on the hunt for my first revolver, and it only seems fitting to get a J-Frame. This response should remove a few laps you’ve been gifted. Thank you sirI have a S&W 640-1 (pre lock).I prefer the steel guns over the scandium. She’s hefty, but that heft combined with the Pachmayr Grip makes her a dream to shoot, even with hot .357 mag, and I like having the option to run .357 mag.
I had a S&W 442, but I didn’t like being married to .38 special.
Keep in mind, this is probably a sub 15 foot gun, so that extra oomph from 357 mags will tend to play in your favor, because if you practice a decent amount, your likelihood of missing will shrink dramatically.
Get one of these, get a FE x Veil Solutions Ghost holster, load it with Buffalo Bore 150 grain .38 wad cutters (item 20D) for Summer and Federal 158 grain Hydra-Shoks (Item #P357HS1) for Winter and you’ll be set. I actually bought this gun because of that holster. The holster is a little tight to start, so just practice your draw a couple hundred times and you should be good to go.

Also get some Federal 148gr Gold Medal. It’s the best snub nose 38 load. Ask @caleb.giddingsUpdate: I went with the 442. Time to order the Ghost Holster.
Cannot go far wrong with the 442. Time tested and proven. Now get you a couple boxes of 148 grain wadcutter and practice!Update: I went with the 442. Time to order the Ghost Holster.
