I absolutely loathe gun laws. I have chafed against them since I was a teenager. If we lived in the Information Age, but we had laws like it was 1933 I'd be torn between an M249 Para SAW or an HK MP5SD. I'd likely settle on the suppressed MP5 as it would be cheaper to feed. Any other opinions?

I'm fortunate in that I have the MP5 itch scratched-- it's not an SD but it has a can.

If no rules includes no prices, I want an FG-42.

That's a good point. Curiously, that picture is of my gun. No normal person could ever afford an original. However, SMG Guns near Dallas makes incredible replicas of both the Type I and the Type II. They are handbuilt works of mechanical art and priced accordingly. However, they're not the $150-200k of an original. I'm blessed to have a full-time side job that I can devote entirely to guns and it still took nearly a year of saving to swing each of those.

I couldn’t resist using your photo when I stumbled across it.

I need to look into the replicas.

My dad, who never made much money but was great at saving it, bought a bunch of transferable MGs in the ‘90s before prices went crazy. Only good investment he ever made.

Timing is everything in that world. Tragically, I turned 21 in 1987. I landed a few before they got totally nuts, but I just had no resources back then. Even if I knew then what I know now, it wouldn't have made any difference. Short of robbing a bank, I was skunked...

There may be other, "better choices. But for me the absolute sexiest, most-wanted firearm has always been the MP5. I've shot several FA versions and that's only ever increased my lust for them. Of course, then I'd need a proper FN Hi-Power. And a Sykes Fairbairn dagger. (If you give a mouse a cookie. . . )

Yeah, I'm tracking on your source code. I saw the Princes Gate takedown on the news when it happened and would have drunk bathwater to have one of those things myself. A buddy actually did have a FA conversion that I lusted over in a manner that was unseemly. Kind of amazing that a Turkish clone and an FRT will get you there without having to hock a kidney nowadays. What hath God wrought?

Yep. Exactly my source code. Well spotted. I was 20 years old, so the perfect medium for that particular virus. Buddy from back in the day likes to say the P35 killed more terrs than cigarettes.

An original Sharps 1859, one of my ancestor's was in Colonel Hiram Berdan's U.S. Sharp Shooters company I. I went on to be a sniper in the Army so I would love to have that connection in a rifle.

My first company CO in the Army was of native American stock. His Dad passed on a vintage Winchester festooned with brads and such that had been in the family since they took it from a Cavalry soldier back in the 1800's. Gave it to him the day he graduated basic telling him he was a man now and it was time. That's a great story. Then some scum-sucking loser broke into his house and stole it. The rifle was never seen again.

Damn that is really unfortunate.
