I have been offered a nice deal on a S&W 642 Lady Smith .38. My pea-sized man brain is having a hard time getting past the fact that it says “lady smith” on the frame. Do I bite the bullet and accept that I will be made fun of by my buddies and get it because it’s a great gun or do I avoid it because it’s gay to carry a gun that says lady smith on it

Those guns shoot great and if someone has to see it, it’ll be the last thing they see. Leave the wording on there. Get the gun.

Lady Smith shoots very well. No shame in carrying one. Screw what your “buddies” think. Grab your balls and buy it.

One caveat to add here on these; if you find one (638s IIRC) with a recessed hammer, which you can access the hammer and cock the pistol, be VERY fucking careful that the pistol is unloaded when you try this the first time. It is way beyond a "hair trigger".
