Just curious if anyone else has had the opportunity to craft their own knives? I recently took a class that was partly hosted and informed by Henry Walker and Ray Kirk who were on the Forged in Fire series. Made some Bowie inspired knives (not the Ground Control to Major Tom type. Well, maybe). Really made me appreciate the process and craftsmanship for top-tier pieces.

Looks like you are off to a good start. I've been making them since I was a kid, few pics attached. It is a great hobby. I would describe knife making as "simple, not easy". Keep after it!!

Damn! Those look amazing! And “simple, not easy” is spot on.
Thanks man! I've been at it for a minute and I'll never be as good as I want to be. Check out John Horrigan, Walter Brend and Jerry Fisk if you haven't already. Some of Horrigan and Fisk's pattern welded Damascus is simply unreal. Brend grinds will make you scratch your head. There are a lot of amazing makers out there, these are just 3 of my favorites.

I took a class from a fellow Forged in Fire alumni as well Cody Adolphson AKA Little Wolf Ironworks. I made a feather Damascus bird and trout knife. Took three days to complete. I’m doing another class with him in a few weeks. That handle material is wild!

I took a class many years ago by Dave Banks(Master blade smith), forged this damascus blade from large ball bearings and used pre ban elephant ivory, cocobola, and ebony scales and mosaic pins. Finished it off with an Ostrich leg skin sheath.

Started this one at the same time but never finished it.... one of these days.

Have never made a complete knife but was invited many years ago along with a few other buddies to custom knifemakers Pat Nihiser’s shop to “build” a knife. Everyone got to do something and take part in the process. It was cool to see everything that goes into making a truly handmade knife.
