Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.
Q: How bout that podcast?
A: The first episode will drop this month.
Q: When will the Tropical hit the warehouse? My dealer said they can’t order yet.
A: Ordering for the FE Model 36 Classic will officially open on Tuesday at 10 easter/9 central. Let your dealer know to add it to their Lipsey’s Wish List if they sell out too quickly. Smith and Wesson is rolling these off the production line throughout 2026.
Q: Classic SxS recommendations. New or used fine under $10k. Must handle modern loads.
A: The current Beretta SxS shotguns aren’t talked about enough. I’ve killed ducks with the 20 and 12 and they’re very good. For a cheaper classic, I have the BRNO ZP from CZECH. They can be found on the auction sites for not much $. Mine has a sling which I like a lot.
Q: Good book recommendations on Rhodesia? SAS, Scouts, RLI in particular.
A: 3 Sips of Gin.
Q: I got invited to the FE hotel party at DSC last year … how can I get in again this year?
A: Just find us at the bar downstairs or stop by the booth during the show and ask. Everyone should be coming to the @officialdsc in Atlanta this coming weekend. Cheap flights in and out.
Q: Any pistol cal carbines you guys like?
A: @springfieldarmoryinc Kuna is awesome.
Q: Is it a sin to put a red dot via pic rail on a vintage Marlin 336?
A: Not at all. It’s very useful.
Q: 10mm lever gun … hot or not?
A: Pretty cool. Preference to 44 Magnum.
Q: When is 47 gonna stop defending gun control in court? See 2nd Amendment Foundation suits.
A: Any recent anti-2A statements on guns/ammo/capacity by the administration and/or FBI Director are not in line with Field Ethos believes or actions. Secure yourself.
Q: Got a buddy doing a Pakistan hunt next week. Any advice for him?
A: Tell him not to eat the lil yellow pepper that’s a garnish on Pakistani curry. It’s weapons grade shit and will ruin your life for several hours.
Q: Ethos marketing for rich showcasing, or wannabe trying buy into the dream?
A: We try to represent a broad spectrum of companies. Some can meet you where you are now, and some should inspire you to reach for the top tier when life gives you the opportunity. We use products from all of these companies as adventurers and conditions dictate.
Q: For 1911 EDC, attach a light or no? And red dot or irons?
A: If you EDC a 1911 with a light and red dot you better have a very substantial belt system. It really doesn’t make sense. It does make sense as a truck gun or chest harness rig in the outdoors.
Q: Can we get some more leather products? I think a Field Ethos x WOE travel pouch would do it.
A: @terry.houin is working on one now. Terry, do not show it yet ffs.
Q: FE approved Seiko models … or comparable brand for those on a sub-$3K budget?
A: Turtle is the go-to. Call @gundersonjewelers and tell them you want a Japanese turtle.
Q: Just bought a Fix in 308. Recommended scope for bear/elk/deer?
A: 2 great options at different price points: @leupoldoptics Mark 5 3-18; @eotech Vudu 5-25.
Q: I’m a print subscriber. Where can I order the watch?
A: We posted an early release link in the Field Ethos Society and they sold out quickly. We’ll be dropping the rest soon. If you’re a print subscriber, log in to the Society for early access to collaborations and gear: Link.
Q: Have the Q1 journals shipped?
A: Only to people that pay us for them. And the USPS plays frisbee with them en route.
Q: When are we getting the turtlenecks?
A: Next fall for sure. Definitely in time for Christmas card photos.
Q: Why can’t Pete get a sentence out during the Tucker interview without having acid reflux?
A: Lots of substance colliding in that lil body of his.
Q: What’s the next bucket list hunt/fishing/adventure trip you want to accomplish?
A: Going to blaze down a bull walrus this year.
Q: Are all modern single bevel broadheads created equal?
A: Who gives a shit. Sling an unbeveled .300 Win Mag. Go run 3 laps.
Q: Preferred/best waders for waterfowlers with large EE feet?
A: Sounds like you need to keep your big ass on dry land.
Q: CRUSR vs Trapper? And which red dot for either?
A: The Marlin Trapper is a very good rifle. Love mine. That said, we went with @henry_rifles on the CRUSR because we wanted the lightest, most corrosion-resistant .45/70 ever made. They nailed it.
Q: Best optic for MK18?
A: I use an @eotech EXPSE + magnifier on my go-to SBR.
Q: 1911, 38 snub or save for the kid’s first gun?
A: Depends on the age of the kid. Maybe you have some time or maybe he’s ready to start hunting in the fall. If you have time, get the FE x @smithandwessoninc Tropical. And take 2 laps for being a dad that doesn’t provide enough info.
Q: Any ideas when and where the Mossberg Bliksem drops?
A: Mid Feb @mossbergcorp dealers everywhere.
Q: Who do I reach out to if I didn’t receive the last issue of the magazine?
A: Email TheGimp@fieldethos.com. Use abusive language please.
Q: Springfield Mil Spec or Garrison?
A: Both are awesome. Can’t go wrong with a @springfieldarmoryinc 1911.
Q: Favorite elk hunting state?
A: I’ve only been on a few elk hunts, but New Mexico definitely held some giants.
Q: Just got a Boombox. What thermal are you putting on it for pigs and coyotes?
A: The new, new from @armasight_usa.
Q: Did I see the Rossi collab accidently get posted yesterday?
A: Possibly.
Q: Lord’s caliber, 400 yards or less, whitetail to eland, what 200-grain bullet to do it all?
A: The new @federalpremium 200-grain is supposed to be amazing. We’ve killed with the Terminal Ascent in other chamberings, just not this one … yet. All of it has been VERY legit. Try it and report back. The Bergers are also great.
Q: If someone fucks around, what’s the unavoidable outcome?
A: God slaps them with the find out hand.
Q: What do you think about bow fishing?
A: Lots of fun and way less gay than bow hunting.
Q: Know of any lightweight scope rings that put your optic at a 1.7 height?
A: @talley_rings.
Q: Personal favorite field watch?
A: Rolex Explorer II.
Q: Thoughts on the SIG P211 line?
A: Big like. @sigsauerinc.
Q: Box ammo recs for Model 70 .30-06, Hornady being very inconsistent?
A: The 165-grain @barnesbullets is VERY accurate out of my M70 Supergrade .30-06.
Q: Can you carry at the DSC?
A: Who cares, it’s Atlanta. You should carry even if you’re in the swimming pool. Lap. Also, yes.
Q: How many tariff percentage points did that Italian duck cost us? Asking for a friend.
A: There are ducks in Italy? Who knew. If we ever allegedly hunted there, there was lots of alleged confusion.
Q: Bought a Springfield Waypoint in 6.5 PRC. What optic should I top it with? Sheep/deer rifle.
A: @leupoldoptics VX-6HD.
Q: Do you take subs for Journal content from randos? Anything to stay away from in subject matter?
A: Absolutely. Submission link in on the website.
Q: Bergara Premium or Springfield Waypoint in .308?
A: @springfieldarmoryinc Waypoint. Or spend a few $ more on this @steyrarms_us we have coming out this month. Sixteen-inch threaded with a Banser carbon-fiber stock. She’s a real Austrian beaut!
Q: Are expensive triggers really worth it? (Trigger Tech special vs diamond)
A: @trigger.tech is very good.
Q: How to stop being diabolically hungover?
A: Time and hydration. An IV with zophran for nausea and taurine to chase away that cloud in your head works wonders.
Q: Mom went home to Jesus this last week … go to daily strengthening scripture rec?
A: Read all the Paul books. Spend time with friends and family. Very sorry for your loss amigo.
Q: Day 7 no power. People stealing people’s resources. Is it baiting if I make a visible pile and wait?
A: It’s premeditated now you doofus.
