So a very close friend of mine informed me that he was going to name his first son after me, baby should be delivered around end of March. It's a huge honor for me and I want to get the kid/family something special and a keep sake for him. Curious what you gents and ladies think would be a good idea(s) to gift them? I know my buddies family already has a .22 getting engraved with the baby's name on it but any suggestions would be great. Cheers

Henry was doing a special on their Long Ranger (don't know if they still are or do it on other guns) but basically when you order one they would engrave the name and whatever date as the serial number. It was a cool idea I thought and I ordered one as a gift for a friend a few years back.

Also SOG knives Custom Shop would engrave whatever on one of their knives if you purchased one... I used to give them as gifts to newbies on their 5th year anniversary on the team.
both of those are solid ideas. I was kinda thinking a knife with name and DOB would be cool. Thanks

Check out some of the Arno Bernard knives that are available through African Sporting Creations. One of the fixed blades is what I got for @Joe Ferronato ’s first born and they will do personalization on the items as well.

@Charlie Benton carries one of the folding knives and can vouch for how well made they are.

@Ron Dan is correct. Arno Bernard knives are awesome. I've carried the iMamba Flipper daily for over a year, use it all the time, and really like it. That being said, I also have two of their fixed blades and think those are better gift options. The handle materials (kudu bone, mammoth molar, and warthog tusk) are incredible. Buy it through African Sporting Creations and they'll engrave a name on it for $49. I've hunted with my Arno fixed blade on three continents so far - great knife. I opted for the kudu bone handle as seen in the crappy picture below:

Henry Mini-Bolt, my son's loved this gun, they all had to tote it for years with me before they were old enough to deer hunt, good muzzle control practice in the deer stand and red squirrels were held off to a manageable distance, couple suicidal ruffed grouse got turned into grouse strips. Ruger Bearcat is a good gun and kid sized. Can't go wrong with a Red Ryder and a case of BB's and some splatter targets. My kids liked their Victorinox Swiss Army knives, keep in mind, they WILL lose their first knife.

Awesome thanks for all that information. Really appreciate it.

This is not a keepsake necessarily but have you thought of gifting a lifetime hunting and fishing license? My 3 stepsons were each gifted one by their Uncle on their first birthday. Here on NC the state provides the license holder with a nice certificate and each of the boys have it framed and hanging in their homes.

This is an outstanding recommendation - great gift idea.

A bunch of great ideas have been shared, can’t go wrong with anything on the list. Another you might consider is a custom leather gun sling with the baby’s name stamped into it. It’s something that can grow with him, and if well taken care of, will last for him decades.

I’ve ordered a couple different styles for my hunting buddies’ kids over the years. I personally prefer the ones from Ozark Mountain but both are good options.
