Worked at a pawn shop for a few years in the gun section. So almost anything I picked up was a killer deal. Bought a WWII M1 Carbine for $650. Bought it off the grandson of the guy who carried it in the Pacific.

The first place I go to in a gun store is the used gun counter. All of the best deals are there. I recently found JV’s birthday present, a S&W M360J Japanese Police revolver, and the guy just thought it was a regular J-Frame so it was priced like a normal 637/437.

I have a few:

Picked up a fixed choke Winchester 101 20 gauge a couple years ago for $500, so that has to be the best one. Great wood, decent bluing, no complaints.

Second would be the Beretta BL-4 20 gauge with fixed chokes for $500 in 2022 and gifted that one to my dad with the understanding that it’s coming back to me one day. Made a heck of a birthday present for the old man.

Another would be my 1951 Win M70 Standard in .30-06. Got that one for $500 as well. Bluing rates probably 5 or 6 out of 10, but I live in a dry climate and keep a thin layer of oil on all the metal parts.

I got a ‘58 Featherweight Model 70 30-06 for a similar price at a gun show about 6 years back. It’s hard to beat a pre 64 at a good price.

Union Pacific had just furloughed most of our hire crew, came home and of course hit an online classifieds; Delta Elite for $600. Went to meet the guy, and his Dad was there too? Kinda weird; they had just bought out Ed's GunShop from Ed's wife after he passed; it was literally a shop he ran out of a shop attached to his garage in the country. Great guy, didn't know he had passed, father/son had bought the whole inventory. The DE is a perfect SS example, but there in the pile was also a SIG P556 with two bags of about 15 loaded GI magazines, and another 1K rounds of 5.56 to boot. I had never seen a P556 before, how much for the 2+mags and ammo? $1350 She nearly killed me with the DE!

When I turned 18, I purchased a Verona/Sarsilmaz semi auto at Dicks sporting goods. The tag said $350, which I was willing to pay. At checkout, they rang me up at $100. I did the honest thing and told them the tag was more. They said, our error, you get it for $100. I used it for a couple season and eventually sold it for $100 to a friend.
