What's Up Gents,
This one’s for all the archers out there—drop your setup in the comments and let us know what you’re running. Share your thoughts on others’ rigs, too. Let’s use this thread to bounce around ideas and help everyone dial in their ultimate setup!

  • What’s your current bow build (bow, draw weight/length, sight, rest, stabilizers, arrows, broadheads)?
  • How did it perform in the field?
  • Do you run a backup bow? If so, is it identical or set up differently?
  • What would you improve or change about your current setup?
  • Do you adjust your setup for off-season practice or 3D shoots?

Mine is a Matthews Helim... 29.5 inch draw, 70 lb draw weight, 350 gr Carbon Express arrows with either 100 gr Shuttle T lock broadheads or Muzzy 3 blade Trocar broadheads. It's an old set-up but it's pretty accurate, whisper quiet and primarily anymore it only gets out during the bugle elk season...

I am on a 7 year cycle with getting new bows. Picked up a new one last year.

Matthews Lift X 33
29.5" draw 70lbs (Its bottomed out so I am not sure if it is 70 or a little over)
Bee Stinger release
Spot Hog Fast Eddie with 5 pin housing. Switched that out from the 2 pin.
Goldtip hunter XT arrows with 50 grain insert. All together its 473 grains
G5, 6 arrow quiver
Name a broadhead and there is a good chance I have shot it. Killed two deer last year. One with a 100 grain Killzone 2.0. The other was with a Gravedigger. Both did fine the Gravedigger ferrule bent pretty bad on a rib bone from a heart shot.

I may have to change out the quiver. I have run it for years and with this bow it just puts the balance off so I take it off when shooting. Typically I like to hunt with it on, its just easier. I don't run a back up bow just cause I gave my old bow to my son. He is close to my stats so if shit hit the fan I could shoot his.

This bow performed great. I made my furthest shot this year. Shot a doe at 40 yards in the heart. I was sitting in a blind. She was feeding right at 40 yards and I put the pin right on her heart and hit her right there, she made it 15 yards.

I don't change anything during the off season. I have a decent size back yard so I like to shoot all year.

Solid bro! I heard Mathews squared away the issue with the limbs by the time the Lift X arrived. I went through 2 sets of cracked limbs with my Lift 33.

Honestly I didn't know about any issue they had.

Sad thing is I had to go through two bows last year. Last spring I had bought a new RX8. It was on sale because the new ones were coming out. I was shooting it a month or so before the season, I hit full draw and my hands were sweaty and I let go of the hand release. It exploded the bow and cracked the carbon riser.

Ordered a new riser which was suppose to get here in 4 weeks which would have been just in time for the start of the season. Ran into the shop and asked about it at the 4 week mark. They said they called Hoyt to follow up and Hoyt said they never got the order. Instead of waiting another 4 weeks I just started shooting the new bows and ended up buying the Matthews.

I should have never bought the Hoyt because I bought it just because it was on sale. It was a 30" bow, it was to short for me and I found I like longer axel to axel bows.

Expensive mistake!

The longer ATA is where it is at. They hold far better, and you have a string angle that is not as harsh.
