Starting a thread to spark a dialogue on what we all choose to wear hunting, for what specific hunts and when.

Do you have favorites? Do you give a fuck? Are you a camo person? Solids? Shorts in deep winter? Do you wear blue so the antelope can see you? Do you break from convention wherever possible? Let if fly, tell your story.

As a way of kick starting the dialogue, like many things, it’s an evolution for me, with more bias to solids these days. That said, I did enjoy a warm winter day in Africa this year, taking this Gemsbok in a vintage Reyn Spooner aloha shirt, excellent it turns out paired with 300 WinMag, or a cold Pacifico with a slice of lime.

I mostly wear solids when I hunt because usually my camo is for cold weather. I hunt in Texas and this 85 degree December has me sweating balls when I try to wear my Kuiu. I’m usually rocking a pair of khaki or brown Kuhl pants, a poncho or FE Zenith shirt and a quarter zip or hoodie. However, I am excited to hunt in my new Venter quarter zip this year.IMG_4170.jpeg

I've switched over to the Kuiu stuff and just keep a tote of it in back of the 'Cruiser, as in a 6 hour drive to the spots, we have so much different landscape. Really liking the different Kuiu builds, pockets, zippered vents, hoods. Love the Spooners too, made on the Island!

That’s one bad ass take, @jacobylovell - bravo!

Very similar for me @deadeyejunior - a few trips to Africa pushed me to solids for sure.

When I got rid of all my Shit'ka and replaced it with Kuiu I went with all solids except for a nice lightweight Kuiu Mesa camo button up that I wear in the dove field and a Vias camo Guide vest for a mid layer.

Camo is definitely overrated, it matters more to hunters than the game they pursue.

I am very much Kuiu @badgererickson - stuff is built well.

As to a phenomenal Reyn Spooner, they are amazing. I think @Jason Vincent should do an FE collab with them and I’d volunteer to help, I ran those trap lines with them when we were filing our company S1 to go public and I was thinking one for every employee, maybe even a bucket hat. @Ron Dan could both deliver on that promise, and rock one well. Spooner Cloth is amazing. I’ve been in Paso the last few days for my oldest son’s wedding - last night was the rehearsal and he, his groomsmen, heck about everyone, sported a Reyn Spooner, by design. Well, now that I think about it, @Tony Caggiano was not wearing one, but I’ll give him a hall pass because he brought his treasure of a wife, but now I know what to get him for next Christmas. Talk about built to last, he’s got some of mine from the 1980’s! Best aloha shirt ever!

Yes Sir, my wife is well-trained to spot them in thrift stores, buy them no matter what size they are. Made in Hawaii, the patterns just tickle your eyes and soul at the same time. Drive on, not sure who all those guys are in the project but YES. ....and congrats on the wedding experience w/o buying any rings!

My son Patrick perfected the thrift store play here locally, there is also a guy in our town who only sells vintage aloha shirts, little bastion of gold!

That’s a great combo

So, what are the details on what happened at Kuiu, and when? Who bought them out?
Hello? Wasn't there an FE connection at Kuiu of sorts? IDK, just asking as I saw it mentioned somewhere else here. I mean it was made in VietNam before, it's not like it could get any more 3rd world for production profiteering...

FE Instagram account addresses it a few days ago. To summarize, the buy out was a great move, purchased by a group of hunters/conservationists.

Maybe @Jason Vincent can add more details.

I have an old set of Turkish Woodland BDUs i snagged on the cheap from Americana Pipedream. Works perfectly in Central Texas for stalk hunting. Took awhile to get the smell of Turkish cologne and cigarettes out of it though. Pants, shirt, and jacket may have put me back 30 bucks. 🤣

Going back to the Origin "Made in USA" stuff, trying out these 50% wooly bears. Been happy with their stuff so far over last years of their start up, Made in USA, ...

Personally, I feel like  most camo is for the hunter- some sort of fashion for purpose built use case. Typically I'll only wear patterns when turkey hunting or waterfowling as there is some advantage to be had. With that said, I'll sometimes go out in solids for waterfowling and still murder the flock. However, I do enjoy some camo patterns and may be inclined to wear them, but understanding it's really just for me for the most part. With out a formula handy, id reckon theres a huge amount of diminishing returns on camo post purchase.
