Hey dumb but genuine question. Im just getting back into hunting the last few years after many years off: why does everyone hate Sitka? Seems like decent stuff but I'm largely uneducated on modern hunting technology/clothing

It's more about their business model and politics than anything

I just wear whatever I want to wear - usually more related to the weather and species than anything else. Some of my most comfortable cold weather clothes just happens to be camo from known brands, but I’ve worn Columbia fishing shorts duck hunting Laguna Madre, and I wore some cheapo joggers instead of technical pants from Amazon for a weeklong mule deer hunt in CO this year. Africa deserves solids though.

I enjoy camo and wear it often but never felt that I NEEDED it necessarily.

I have killed more turkeys in my favorite pair of khaki workpants that I picked up at Tractor Supply 20+ years ago.

The only trick is that I actually know how to sit still...as a guide of 25+ years I can promise you that less than 30% of hunters truly know how to sit fucking STILL.

Starting a thread to spark a dialogue on what we all choose to wear hunting, for what specific hunts and when.

Do you have favorites? Do you give a fuck? Are you a camo person? Solids? Shorts in deep winter? Do you wear blue so the antelope can see you? Do you break from convention wherever possible? Let if fly, tell your story.

As a way of kick starting the dialogue, like many things, it’s an evolution for me, with more bias to solids these days. That said, I did enjoy a warm winter day in Africa this year, taking this Gemsbok in a vintage Reyn Spooner aloha shirt, excellent it turns out paired with 300 WinMag, or a cold Pacifico with a slice of lime.

I like wearing solids for several reasons. For one, it doesn’t really matter what earth tone colors you’re wearing as long as you hunt the wind and be smart about your movement. Secondly, I don’t like to pack a bunch of stuff for trips. So if I can use my gear to go to dinner or out in town, I’d prefer to not wear camo.
