Hey fellas.

Just picked up a CZ P09c today as my first hammer fired gun. Shot striker fired for years so I’m not a pistol “rookie” by any means (still suck at shooting 😏) . Kinda in over my head with the Decocker vs safety thing. What’s the consensus amongst the room? In all the research people hate on safeties because of the “added” second it takes upon presentation of the firearm. I’m active mil and our M18s have manual safeties so I’m used to that already. TIA!

I have a p-07. Want to love it but its just too chunky to conceal in FL. Handles well, but cant shoot anywhere close to my 226 in terms of accuracy and consistency. Will prob sell the P-07. Both hammer fire, no safety, but I dont keep one in the chamber, to answer ur question.

This is just my two cents and this is not a representation of FE or any FE affiliated advertising partners. In my humble opinion, I think you should do a safety. I have several 75 variants and I have found that I like having the safety because I can manually (very carefully walking the hammer down) decock the gun and run it chambered in double action for the first round with the safety off. I also have the option to to run it “cocked and locked”. I think it’s a more versatile system and it matches my needs more. It’s all personal preference though. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Congrats, beautiful pistol there. I have pistol preferences BUT do not divide that among safety v. de-cocker v. striker fired. It depends on where I'm going and doing what, which reinforces the awareness brainology of just WTH am I, situational awareness. The SIG 2XX series I have are all with de-cocker, love them. My B&T MkII has a safety, no de-cocker, but they put that safety in probably the best ledge ergo locale I've seen. Yup, the de-cock takes a bit to get used to when you load and make ready for the social work, duty, etc., just need a little extra focus on the rituals and safety. The CZs are deceptively boring; accurate, reliable, dependable. Don't sell it until you're about to lose the house! Drive on Brother, thanks for being there.

That's one of the things I don't like about my Staccato., there's no double action. I have no issue carrying with one in the pipe, safety on but I like having the DA option like I do on my P226. That said, my most common carry guns are my G19 or LCP Max which don't have safeties

I'm a very ambidextrous shooter (handgun, sub gun, marksman rifle, but my "strong" side is my left.
I served in the Marines, got my pistol and rifle expert badges with multiple awards.. spent my career in law enforcement on SWAT.. and I've been in shootings and "shootouts"... The whole "a safety is bad because of the added second it takes to manipulate" is horseshit and a piss poor excuse for poor training.
If you can't simultaneously manipulate a safety while presenting your firearm (pistol or subgun) then you don't belong in the game, you should get off the field. You're just a poser and you will lose your ass. The folks that make those excuses are messing with magic they don't understand.
As a SWAT TL I always told my guys when they started making excuses because they couldn't meet a standard... ," if you can't do what I can do, you can't go where I go"... Meaning that they would sit out the next mission or op until they met the standard or got replaced on the team with someone who could.
Don't buy into the excuses. It's bullshit.

Oh I agree 100% man. The safety thing is a weird hill to die on because it’s so easily incorporated in training in my opinion.

I don't care what anyone's preference is or choice of firearms or whatever... You should train with your choice and be competent with it so that when you identify a threat you can simultaneously present and engage.

After having both I have gone all decocker. Settled on Berettas and HK P 30 SK because they always go bang. I had a CZ which I wish I still had. Decocker also. Don,t want to think about what I pick up. One in the chamber is the way to go for me.

Beretta PX4 (thanks to the Langdons converting me), HK P30s, and CZ 75 variants are all solid options.
