Born and raised in NJ. Spent my youth poor and feral. My father was a farm boy from Eastern Europe where self reliance was a way of life and he imparted those lessons on me. Mom, also from the old country, grew a small garden and made our clothes on a sewing machine. Although, I did a fair amount of freshwater fishing - never hunted. First in my family to graduate from college where I met my wife, started a family (2 boys), made a few bucks since then and now spend my time in the summer being called a shoobie. My father-in-law introduced me to hunting whitetail and upland birds.

I’m here for the good clean fun and to learn about all things fish, feather and fur. I am especially keen on learning the process to hunt game in the West and abroad. Thanks to FE for the effort it took to create this forum of like minded individuals. - Rob

Welcome to the society!

Loved the feral part. Roamed the woods all day long while my parents worked. Had many great adventures.

The poor part wasn’t great but it made me hungry for more.
Yup, didn't know we were "poor" until City Jr High, and the kids were laughing at my JCPenny "PlainPockets" jeans, flannel shirts, and hiking boots. Ahhhh, 1983.......Welcome dude!

Bergen County born/raised, and now Hunterdon County. Are you still in NJ?
Have you hunted the WMA near spruce run for pheasant? If so, what is it like?

I was a member in a hunting club in Lafayette NJ. The club lost its lease when the founding member passed away and the farmer did not want to renew. Since then, I’ve mainly hunted public land WMAs between Cape May and Sussex. I have also gone to a few commercial preserves. If I can’t find another club to join I may just do the commercial preserve thing going forward. The public land is so crowded.
