I'm a huge fan of the M1A Scout with EBR stock, or the tried-and-true M-4 or M16... I was initially issued an M16A1 and I see now that there's a growing market for the "retro" style, lol! In the Marines we had to qualify with them out to 500 meters, so I know they are a capable battle rifle!

Now we'll have folks arguing what is categorized as a battle rifle. Does 5.56 cut it?

Thanks to the Kuwaitis shooting down 3 of our F-15s, I learned about the new USAF survival rifle. It's basically an M4 with a quick release barrel from Cry Havoc. Sort of like the old 10/22 takedown but in a real caliber. Having something relatively concealable but definitely lethal seems like a great combo.

I was assuming No, based on your very first sentence in your thread starter.
LoL 🤣 I just took it as those rifles in 7.62 were @RonDans Go To Battle Rifle.. I think that the current issue battle rifle in 5.56 is just fine.. but I also like the 7.62s... some other guys might prefer the 300 Win Mag LoL 😂..
I carried 200 rounds of 5.56 (back in the day we were initially issued 20 rnd mags) and that was plenty of added weight with all my other kit... For awhile I carried an M-14 and 7.62 rounds.. that was heavy AF... No thanks.. I'll keep the 5.56 in my battle rattle 😂

Yes. However, now with AAC out of commission for a bit, my monthly investment in their 75 or 77gr chow has been put on hold.....

The Century Arms VSKA Tactical folders acclimation paid off; Ulti-Mak gas tube that comes with a sturdy rail for the Mepros, a 90 degree cant on the gas tube, and their newer barrels has been a winner at least in the (2) I'm running. Our "battle" here in WI is that we're sandwiched between CGO Vice Lord's fleeing their FBI warrants in CGO, Somali pirates fleeing MPS/STP to MSN, and the Mex cartels just plain taking advantage of whatever they see on the menu today.

Still testing out some surprisingly iffy uppers from DD and LWRC, which I found surprisingly iffy for accuracy. My 5.56 go-to is an older SIG P556, 10" barrel IIRC, rock solid, eats everything with accuracy. Love the old AR-10T but fok, the 25rd mags are 5#s a piece on their own!

Which reminds me daylight savings time is Sunday; change the batteries out in all your optics.

77gr Sierra OTM is a universal yes

I had a great metric FAL which would likely be choice #1. I say had... I still have it, it's just business inventory now and a post sample machine gun. Still works for the intended purpose. Interestingly poking at greatness is the SVT-40. If they had been made a little more heavy duty they would be a badass 30 caliber semi/full auto rifle.

Yeah, that would be one of the all-time greats either way

Here’s one of my battle rifles. Springfield Armory, M-1A, SOCOM-16, I swapped out the plastic stock for walnut. Added the Bradley cheek rest,
Sadlak scope mount, currently a Vortex Razor Gen III, HD 1-10x24mm optic is on it. Adjustable gas block, Surefire Warcomp and a SOCOM 7.62 Mini-II can. The old Leupold in the photos is on another carbine.
