Today marks one year from my dad passing due to heart complications. I hear all the time that I’m his spitting image. I reckon so. He’s front center between my sisters, I’m back left in green.

You certainly do look like him! Sorry for your loss. I lost my father and my stepfather many years ago... both men I became very close to. It's tough losing anyone you love but especially a parent or a sibling. Best you can do is remember the best of times shared with them and try to learn from their mistakes. If you loved them, try to honor them in your memory and in your life.
Every Memorial Day I visit the graves of all my friends and family members in the area. I put flowers on their graves and if I feel the need, I tell them a few words. Many of them I have a gun or fishing rod or knife from and if I'm particularly missing them, I might put that knife in my pocket or take that gun for a walk chasing birds or whatever is in season. It makes me feel closer to them and often brings back moments that I had forgotten. I hope one day when I am gone, my children can find comfort in some of the things I left behind.
Maybe tonight give dear old Dad a salute and share some memories of your dad with other family members. I'm sure he would love the "toast and roast".

Very sorry for your loss. When my Father passed, it was like losing that blocking fullback in life, even though he hadn’t leveled anyone in my path for years, it was the promise that he would of needed that felt stripped away, and the humor, the wisdom, and a bazillion other things I miss each day.

Good reminder the be that person for those in your care as well.

Again, prayers and sorry for your loss.

@Ryan Horst Sorry for your loss and your dad looks like his was a great man. What is one funny memory you have with him you could share?

I lost my dad 35 years ago when I was 18 and the days aren't as difficult but I miss him deeply every day.

My dad grew up on a farm. As the oldest of seven, his job was milking the cows. One cold and early morning while dad was in high school, dad was already irritated about something when he headed to the barn. As he sat down to milk one of the cows, it had apparently decided it didn’t want to be touched that morning, and promptly turned sideways to kick him square in the chest with a hind leg.

Now, as I said, dad grew up on that farm. He was COUNTRY strong and known locally as one of the strongest boys his age in the area. He picked himself up, walked around the front of that cow, lifted its chin, and punched it straight in the forehead. It crumpled like a dropped sack of potatoes, knocked out cold. Dad got in BIG trouble with Grandpap for that incident.

EDITED: forgot to mention he got a boxer’s break in his hand from it.

Jeff that is awful to lose you father that young I am so sorry.

I lost mine at 45. I wrote about it before but he was so sick it was a blessing. I felt very fortunate that I had a good dad for 45 years
