Do you have a post-shot ritual to honor the animals you shoot? Do you kneel and pray a prayer of thanksgiving? Do you offer the animal the ‘letzebissen,’ the ‘last bite’ and place a sprig of something green in its mouth like Europeans do? How do you honor the animals you kill?

Try to take a few good pictures and then get to work.

If it’s a really nice one we will pull it out in the yard. My wife isn’t a hunter but has gotten pretty damn good at taking deer pics. I really did a crap job with the one my sons killed last week.

I’ve been compelled by the great @john hill to place greens in the mouth, but it’s not my tradition.

I always pray when heading out to hunt, and I am always thankful in prayer when I’ve un-alived something. I always reference being thankful for the land, the experience, the bounty, the learning, the friendships, and the reflection.

This to me is the quintessential ‘to each their own’ item, and I would never prescribe a path to another person.

Agreed, Godfather. It's not my business to tell anyone how to celebrate a successful hunt. But I do want to honor the animals that fill my freezer in whatever ways I can.

The Europeans do this better than anyone. From the last bite to the drinks and songs, they honor the animals while making it a memorable experience for all involved.
