Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.
Q: Worst travel experience while traveling abroad to hunt?
A: Eighteen-hour drive into the Mongolian desert after flying over 20 hours and being detained by local police who were irate that I wouldn’t sign a confession in Cyrillic. I was pretty fried.
Q: Moved to interior Alaska. What grain and load should I choose for my 30-06 for ‘bou, moose, bear?
A: 180-grain Barnes Bullets.
Q: What will it take to stop the conservative infighting?
A: An EMP.
Q: What is it about curling that captures middle aged men’s attention so thoroughly?
A: We all love it because it makes us feel as though we too could compete for a gold medal with very limited training. It also looks like a sport that encourages a lot of beer consumption while competing.
Q: What are some good 2A and hunting advocacy groups worth joining?
A: Second Amendment Foundation, SCI and Dallas Safari Club.
Q: Fishing trip on Lake Michigan. What do we bring, pizza, grape soda or beef jerky?
A: Bring @the_ron_dan and he’ll bring all of the above.
Q: Did Omega guy ever get his first gun?
A: His wife handles security and lawn maintenance.
Q: Do you see any gaps in the hunting/gun industries, and what are some remedies?
A: We all need to be killing more squirrels before they kill all of us.
Q: Thoughts on Tudor Pelagos?
A: Love them. Get one from Gunderson Jewelers.
Q: What new FE products are coming in the next few months?
A: New airflow hoodies, button-ups, pants and shorts in a new camo. All in airflow material.
Q: INEOS over old school Land Rover?
A: 10,000%.
Q: Thoughts on Sinn watches?
A: Their single USA retailer is absolute garbage. Their watches are great though. @sinn_spezialuhren
Q: Looking to get a rifle built, haven’t settled on a caliber 6.5-284 Norma or 6.5 PRC?
A: Between those two I’d pick a .300 Win Mag.
Q: Picked up the Exception. Beautiful gun. Should I put any optics on it at all?
A: Leupold Optics VX3 1.5-5×20.
Q: Favorite scope for the Steyr/FE collab?
A: I’m going to put a Kahles Optics K18i on mine for versatility. Longest kill on 8x so far has been 479 yards, which was stretching it a bit. Setting this one up as a 400-yard do-it-all.
Q: Where’s the best place for a crocodile hunt? And is the Exception the correct rifle for it?
A: The Exception is definitely accurate enough for that pinpoint shot. For the ultimate croc adventure, you want to do the Zambezi River islands in Mozambique with @crusader_safaris. You can definitely die on that one. Sauer Exception rifle available only at @riversandglen.
Q: Recommendations for a first .375 H&H?
A: Winchester Repeating Arms Alaskan .375.
Q: Gorilla 8.6 supers are inconsistent for 12-inch Fix – recommended brand?
A: @justcausesoltionsllc
Q: FE Olympic luge relay team. Top and bottom sliders. Who ya got?
A: @wileywatson with his hair greased back and @petercorreale on Adderall.
Q: Did you need to raise your Acro on the Henry collab to see over the can?
A: Reptilia Acro mount works perfectly.
Q: Wy do rifles come with shorter barrels now than in the past?
A: Powder tech and common sense have advanced.
Q: Is it possible to get a tougher wrap to send the FE mag in w/o USPS fkn it up?
A: The USPS is such a piece of shit (not the mail carriers … ours is great). We’ll check on thicker wrappers but the whole process is careless.
Q: How many laps do I run for just now realizing (at 30) that the entire system is a lie?
A: An entitled citizenry governed by the corrupt is a tinderbox. We are beyond the point of no return. Act accordingly.
Q: What is it going to take to prosecute these people in the Epstein Files?
A: They will never be prosecuted. The best you can hope for is that they’re being leveraged … and I’m sure they are to an extent. Vengeance is the Lord’s in this instance. He will have the last word, and it will be eternal.
Follow-up A: I’ve had a few hours of windshield time since the Epstein files question, and I’ve settled on this:
If the American people were as concerned with the dark influences that are entering their children’s lives through YouTube, video games, social media, music, and television as they are with the files, we could set a new course. A preventative one. Winning the spiritual wars in your children’s lives needs to be a priority.
Q: If you had to buy another truck, what would it be?
A: Another F-250.
Q: What do you recommend getting my Henry threaded with the tube in the way?
A: You should’ve bought the FE x Henry CRUSR.
Q: Late to the party … Volquartsen collab still available? Haven’t been able to.
A: The Volquartsen x FE is in development.
Q: Any experience with Trijicon riflescopes?
A: Trijicon magnified optics are very solid.
Q: Any FE rifles available in lefty—besides the lever gun?
A: Just take any of the FE rifles and stand on the right side of them. Should do the trick.
Q: Are the entry-level Kimbers worth trying for a fist 1911, or just go with a Springfield Garrison?
A: There is no level of Kimber that I’d choose over a Springfield Armory Garrison.
Q: Can recommendation for a Mark 23?
A: Rugged Suppressors.
Q: Can you work with Springfield to make the 458 Garand happen? Need for AI robot wars.
A: I told you not to mention this gun. They never hit the used market and I need the 1st one that does. @_jswitzer, I am your market for a drone defense .458 Win Garand should you accept the mission.
Q: Best throwback Seiko for dad? Context was MAC-V and still wears his Compass.
A: Get him a black dial turtle from @gundersonjewelers.
Q: Did y’all kill some pigs?
A: Headed to Texas today to slay some evil swine with the Barret MRAD Covert.
Q: Preferred SecureIt model for basement gun safe?
A: SecureIt stackable, modular safe.
