My eclectic collection of memories. A few notes. Cape Buffalo was soft bossed and I had to get the fake hard bossed removed so it looks more like what I shot. Harlequin is the only banded (double banded) duck I’ve taken. Probably like my Steenbok and Warthog best as they ignore fences and sneak in and out through holes everywhere.

What's the significance of the pistol on the plaque?

Back in the mid-90’s I was the Security Police Sq/CC at Sembach AB, Germany. The regional Polizei held a shooting competition and I won. I can still remember how i excitedly thought “that’s a real pistol” and how disappointed i was to find it wasn’t.

Great mix of species in the trophy room. I'm partial to blue wildebeest as that was my first African species. What made you go with two of them on that wall?

With the exception being cape buffalo, wildebeest are probably my favorite African species to hunt. When we built our house, our game room still had plenty of room and most everything was getting shoulder mounted and hung on a wall. Thinking back I would have Euro'd the 2nd blue, but I do like having them on either side of the black.

Thanks! It was fun putting together. I’m still adding a few finishing touches when I run across something cool but for the most part she’s done. When I moved in the basement looked like I stepped into my youth so I just went with it. Makes for something different and fun.

Reminds me of some of the awesome photos we dug through for @Lucas Bernard's Tiki feature in 2025 Volume 2 of the print journal. Different themes, obviously, but same dedication to perfecting the atmosphere. Very cool.

Something to consider for your next blue: Kevin Brittingham got the brindled hide of a blue turned into a duffle bag and it may be the coolest-looking duffle bag I've ever seen.

It probably is just me, but my black wildebeest hunt was uneventful. Fairly long shot over open grassland. All of my blue, kings, golden and cooksons were long walk and stalks. Far more memorable and challenging hunts. The cooksons took us 3 days to get in thick mopane. Tons of fun.

Danm thats a sick idea!! I have the hyde from the blue I arrowed down there, would be cool to have something like this made from it.
