Is there a preferred bare action for sub or right around $1k? I’m wanting Remington 700 footprint and leaning towards a <16” 6ARC but open minded. Would I be best to just get the Proof factory rifle in 6ARC rather than build it?Grew up on browning so everything else is fairly new to me and I’m weary of internet opinions

I've been off the full rifle builds for a while to give you good feedback. The last 2 custom projects were both off of donor 700 actions I found at a pawn shop for a couple 300WM's. Full custom builds are fun but sometimes they are not as cost effective as you'd think unless you have some skills and tools to do the work yourself. Proof makes a great rifle along with several others, really depnds on $ and what you want to do with the rifle.

I agree with Uncle T.. the last two custom builds I had done (I'm left handed) were very expensive... one was based off a Rem Model 700 action and I special ordered a 700C Custom Walnut Stock from the Remington Custom Shop.. The other was built on a Stiller "Predator" action which I'm also a fan of.. either of those two actions are solid and reliable.
