I am super mind fucked at this current moment in time. It seems my fears have come true, instead of asking the watch nerds of FE and opening a pandoras box of shit I had no clue about i probably should have just bought the Seiko I liked and went on about my life happily lol. I am suffering paralysis by analysis at a level i have only reached a couple times in my 43 years on this earth.
All that being said thank you men for your wisdom.
Mind fuckery only increases with time in the world of watches — pun intended. Find a good daily driver (your seiko, for example) and enjoy it. And if you want to start amassing a collection, it’s a fun game to play. If not, you have a good tool on your wrist and that’s what matters.

My daily is a Tudor black bay 58. It was a gift and it got me into the watch game. Thankfully my current obsession is cheap collectible Swatch. I just got the 1996 Olympics Annie Leibovitz and the recently released Queen E 70 Years piece. Engineering + art + culture — fun!

Well. You’re just buying your first watch. So don’t spin out over it. There will be others. :).

I know Sangin has a great reputation but as far as their production numbers you may just have to wait on it.

One day you will have what’s known as the “grail” watch identified and then the hurt and longing begins. Mine is out there. But there are many distractions and justification hurdles along the way.

Looking forward to seeing your #WRUW, watch are you wearing, post one day.

Miyota automatic movement. Superluminova. 40mm is easy to wear. Not too big, not too small.

I think I grossly underestimated the depth of this rabbit hole.... my concern with a mod is will the case actually be waterproof? Will have to look more into the sangin line. I am deffinately looking at diving/tool watches. Hoping to find one i like for everyday. Pros/cons to a solar movement? Sorry for all the rookie questions but this seems more informative to me than a google search.
Thanks so far guys
I own several Citizen Eco-Drive watches (their solar line). When I was in my 20’s and not a pseudo-watch nerd that I am now, they were my definition of a ‘nice watch’. I have a couple that are just over or approaching 20 years old and I’ve taken them all over the country and my Aqualand Promaster all over the Caribbean diving with me. It’s lived on my my wrist as a backup to my dive computer for every dive I’ve ever made. NONE of them have ever been serviced and they all still look and run great.

Now that I’m in my 40’s and been bitten by the watch bug, hard, there are tons to choose from. I’m very partial to Sangin Instruments like @Godfather mentioned. I own 2 versions of the Atlas and a recently released special edition Kinetic Ti. They rotate with a Longines Hydroconquest GMT as my daily wear. All are great and relatively affordable.

Another tier up I have a Panda dial Tudor Black Bay Chronograph and an Omega Seamaster Chrono. I love them all.

As others have asked, it really depends on what do you want it to do. For me, a date function on a watch is non-negotiable. I use that as much as I use it to tell time. After that, find something you like and wear it. Enjoy the journey and good luck. Also, be careful, this can be a bug that bites hard!
