When, not what or where, would you most like to hunt? The western plains when buffalo still roamed? The Golden Age of African safaris? If a time machine could whisk you away, when would you hunt?

But since you said WHEN, not what or where I would say 1919. Smokeless powder and the rifles and cartridges to house it have been invented. I’m not likely to be conscripted. Art, literature, and music are developing at a wild pace. Basic modern medicine is available and developing. There are LOTS of wild places available which are becoming more accessible via plane, train, and automobile. North America is becoming more devoid of big game especially in the east but if you had money, that wouldn’t matter.
