Reading his intro it is inspired and based off of the Forest Fenn treasure which was found in Yellowstone.

This treasure is also located in Wyoming, maybe I'll stumble across it while hunting elk...

Correct. This was Forrest's last big thing. I knew him briefly as a young dealer in Western Art and got a couple of my best items starting out from him. Forrest basically invented the market of wester art - he's a legend in multiple circles and leaves behind a wild cast of friends, a few of whom I call friends and many of whom were/are accomplished hunters and adventurers.
