Loved the FAL I carried for a period of time in the early 90's. But when it came to getting a modern .308, I went with a Q Fix. Still havent shot anything with it yet though..
FAL was my first true .308 love. I agree with you, for a versatile practical rifle, the Fix sets the bar so high. If you can afford it, it’s a must have rifle.

IIRC, it was Ron Spomer who recently said ( in last 2-3 years) the 6.5CM was an industry birth, resulting from a large rifle primer shortages. The "silent professionals" referring to special teams? They pretty much get what they want, BUT sometimes even their ammo delivered is crap. However, there's been a quality gap filled between Barrett, Lehigh Defense, WC, and Buffalo Bore for ammo integrity that's closer to sniping schools and Teams like never before; one shot, one kill is not a niche corner of the market anymore and the R&D is taking place with suppressors. We are blessed to BE IN that Golden Age of...." wtfbh developed this just for me..." levels of Quality. People have brass, and the brass balls are swinging. Target rich environments on every continent. Drive on Brothers!

I purchased a Taurus Expedition back in October after reading the FE review on it. Having said that, I’m finding it impossible to abandon my Marlin 45-70 for hog hunting. There is just something about the 45-70 cartridge that I can’t get over, especially the buffalo bore loads. I’ve taken two hogs with it so far and both were instant kills. So I find myself in a “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” dilemma. I hunt in Florida so shots are rarely over 100 yards so the 45-70 is all upside for me. But I am looking forward to changing it up sometime this year and going for longer distance shots with the expedition.

PS: Don’t judge me for the Keltec hat or the Holosun setup. That first hog was pre-FE me. 😅

I absolutely love the Taurus Expedition. It’s such a well designed stock and rifle. You can tell that they’re designed by guys that actually use the product.

What caliber did you go with?

I went with the 308. I’m definitely hyped to use it. I also purchased the FE Spartan bipod and love the fact that the Expedition has that adapter built into it. I just need to throw a Leupold scope on it and I am ready to go. Will likely use it on my next hog hunt. Have you taken anything with it yet?

Admittedly like most I filed away the .308 as a boomer cartridge that was fine but hadn’t peaked my interest in a long time.

Then all of a sudden I had several .308 rifles appear from the heavens for different projects and it got me thinking. Is the .308 a has been or has it payed a steady role out of the limelight like a silent professional?

In the next couple weeks I’ll be shooting and reviewing a secret rifle chambered in .308 and I'm planning to do a deep dive into current ammo options for precision, hunting, and special applications.

What say you? Is the .308 the sexy quite professional next to the hipster 6.5CM? Or is the 308 a dying has been holding onto former glory?View attachment 738
Yes, .308 is the best round. Predictable and effective. Not to mention easy to find.

Nice set up. It's pretty impossible to beat the Buffalo Bore or Buffalo Barnes loads, and Tim will answer any questions you have with truth/logic/common sense.

I'm a .308 fan and have both a nice bolt and lever rifle in.308. I had an M1A and it was super cool, but .308 as fast as I could pull the trigger was too pricey. I reload, but I could shoot up two hours worth of reloading output in like five minutes ringing steel gongs. I have a Henry LongRanger now instead.

Never knew it wasn't sexy! haha. Was my first rifle's chambering and over the yearsI have killed a pile of big game with it on I believe four continents. Have shot at least three moose with it and several elk. Kept within "normal" ranges it is sore dick cartridge.
