I've heard good things about Camp-5. Y'all should be good to go. My guy Chad Weibe at Oak Stone Outfitters is also in San Miguel, he's solid too, good place to stay, good guides. We''ve hunted the Kaycee, WY area a lot, deer, elk, bear, prairie dogs, etc.
I went to Cal Poly Pomona, classs of '03, English Literature. Small world indeed!
@Bill Mazelin @Grant Simpson

First, highly advocate for Chad Wiebe at OakStone, I hunt with him a few times a year, they are great and I consider them family. Great choice.

Next, Grant, I’m still he in Russiafornia anytime you want to connect, go to the range, etc. I live in Orange County.

I saw that Field Ethos Outrider uses Oak Stone and have heard good things about them, too. I'm hoping the next FE hosted hog hunt with them fits with our family schedule because it looks like a great outfit and fun event.

I went to Western University for dental school, class of 2016. I lived in the hood... it was an interesting 4 years.

@Godfather
What do you usually hunt at Oak stone? A few times a year makes me think hogs, turkey, and deer? Sounds like a great time.
Good to know I'm not alone in The Society as a political refugee in one of the few pockets of sanity in Southern California. I'm in East County, San Diego. Thanks for the info and the invitation!

Mostly Boar, but my son tends to push old dad to hunt more than my plan when he has “block leave” from the Army. Turkey is high on my list to hunt there.

Life in Commiefornia can be a drag sometimes, but it's where my entire family is so we make the best of it. I've always loved shooting, the outdoors, and adventure and Field Ethos taught me to combine all those things and go hunting. I'm definitely a novice, but I killed a Wyoming antelope last season for my first big game animal and I'm 100% hooked. Planning on a California hog hunt and a Wyoming cow elk/antelope combo hunt this year. I also am on the waitlist for any of the cull/management hunts that Outrider does.

Something I'm not a novice at is fishing and this year's weather pattern is supposed to be a super El Nino, which should mean insanely good offshore fishing for San Diego. I managed a handful of Bonito on a half-day boat in January, so that's a good omen. Hopefully I get a chance to fool a big tuna or two on some sportboat trips this summer. If anyone is local to Southern California and wants to coordinate a saltwater trip, let me know.

Not exactly FE-related, but I also love classic cars and have a 1969 Camaro I restored with my dad in 2009 and my new project is a 1972 GMC Jimmy.

Here to try and gain some knowledge while enjoying the banter and running some laps.
California is beautiful country. You have the coasts, the mountains, and some cool deserts. It is just sadly run by idiots. I was born in Glendale and a lot of good people were as well.

Hey dude, born and raised in LA. Still here, and my kids will raised here too. If there's anything I've learned over the past few years (which I'm guessing would surprise a lot of folks in the normal states), is that there's a surprising large amount of normal people CA. Not just inland, but in LA, SD and SF too. I have 4 buddies I hunt with each year: 1 from MI, but the other 3 are all LA natives as well.

Been fishing all of 3 times in my life, all in Cabo. Just caught a bunch of Bonito a few weeks ago. Would love to get more into it but never really had any idea where to start.

I grew in Studio City. Honestly the majority of people I know or grew up with are solid. Even my more left leaning friends are just regular people who hate the fringe and the idiots running the city, county and state.

I've had a similar experience growing up here in San Diego, plenty of sane people in my neck of the woods. The crazy and frenzied few are definitely holding the more sane (or oblivious) majority hostage

With saltwater fishing, SoCal is one of the few places that offers sportboat fishing that makes offshore or even local access way more affordable than your typical 6-pack charter. In the LA area, Davey's Locker and 22nd Street Landing offer a range of trips from half day fishing for sand bass, rockfish, and whatever is biting to overnight and multi-day trips for pelagic species like tuna. My favorite landing in San Diego is Seaforth Sportfishing, but all the landings have some quality boats. The sportfishing operation is big business and these companies use a ton of methods to get you on fish, including running spotter planes and scout boats. All the landings offer rental gear and the deckhands are always very helpful, especially if you make some easy conversation with them and tip well, whether it's with money or tobacco, vapes, even breakfast cereal (on the long range trips). I was fortunate enough to grow up fishing with my dad on our boat, but I haven't had access to a private boat since childhood. I do anywhere from 2 to 10 trips a year, depending on my schedule. A good place to start is with the half day or 3/4 day boats targeting rockfish and bass. High chance for success to get some great meat for fish tacos and the best teacher is time on the water. Let me know if you want to go more in-depth or if you're ever down this way and want to try and plan a trip. I'm not an expert, but I know enough to get lucky sometimes!

Here's a couple photos. We finished the camaro build in 2009, but she still looks alright and sounds even better. Dropped a 502 in it and did it as a pro street build. As for the Jimmy, it looks nicer than it is. It's about to go in for a full restomod restoration. It wasn't supposed to be a project car, but it sure as hell is. I'd love to do the build myself, but I've got 3 kids under 4 and Run my own business... so it's either let it sit or pay a shop to get it to where I can take the kids to car shows in it. I'm going with the pay to play option out of necessity this time.
These are awesome!

Welcome to Society, Grant.

I too grew up in Arcadia and moved next door to Monrovia.

Oak Stone Outfitters is a well respected CA outfit for pigs, Rio Grande turkey, Columbia black tailed deer, and tule elk. Outrider hunts with Oak Stone because of the @Godfather . Our first hosted hunt in March was a success. Outrider will make this an annual hosted hunt with the high possibility of adding in a Fall hunt too. These pig hunts are perfect for first time big game hunters as well as an opportunity for experienced hunters to practice their glassing, stalking and shooting skills. Not to mention the freezer filling of good meat which Oak Stone butchers and ships to you after the hunt.

Again, welcome to Society, Grant - and as @Cagney said - you will fit right in.

Welcome to Society Grant. I'm in coastal(ish) San Diego and fish out of Seaforth a few times a year. Pinnacle got limits of BFT and a bunch of YFT yesterday. One of the other boats got a couple of Dorado. In mid-APRIL!! This is going to be an epic year for sportfishing.

This is my biggest BFT yet, 104 pounds
