I’m looking into getting my first suppressor, and I know that it won’t be my last. I’m wanting to do it through a trust, but I want the ability to purchase both through local stores and online (if possible).

I know the most simple way is to buy as an individual, but I want the wife to have access to suppressors and other items if I’m out of town.

I’ve owned guns for a long time, but I’m starting my interest into NFA items and just trying to understand what the best way to go about purchasing them is. If I had it my way, none of this would be necessary. It would be as simple as walking into a gun shop and just buying whatever you want, but that’s not the case.

Some of my questions are:

Does anyone have a recommended way of setting up their trust? I’ve seen a ton of different ways online (Gun Trust Guru, Silencer Shop, Silencer Central, etc). Is there one that outshines the other?

Has anyone used SilencerShop’s Single Shot Unlimited Trust, and is this useable for non Silencer Shop?

How do you set up your trust with Silencer Central? Between laps, I’ve seen @Jason Vincent talk about this on Sunday Q&A

When buying an item in the trust, does everyone who is a “responsible party” have to be present to do the background check?

Has anyone ever purchased a suppressor from Scheels? Specifically with a trust? Is the process pretty streamlined?

If I decided to build an SBR, or turn a Shockwave into a SBS, what does that process look like for a trust? Obviously a Form 1, but what does the engraving process entail? Do people in the trust have to be involved, and if so, to what extent?

Is the requirement to notify your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer still in place?

When changing addresses does a change of address form need to be filled out? What about if you move to another state?

Some of these are probably considered dumb questions so I’ll go ahead and start running my laps.

Sound off below, and thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend just going through a Powered by SilencerShop dealer. Use the single shot trusts and their kiosk. It’s such an easy and seamless process. I’ve tried a lot of different methods and SilencerShop is by far the easiest for me.

I think you mentioned you’re located in NoCo. Forget Scheel’s, go to Liberty in Johnstown (same parking lot). I bought my most recent suppressor there.

The process is super simple, they’ll walk you through it. I already had a trust set up but a lot will offer to create a trust if it’s your first. If your wife is listed as a current trustee, she will need to be there for each purchase. If she is a successor trustee (she gets them if you die), then she will not need to be present.
