I also would like to ask how many rounds had you fired prior to this happening? Not just of the ammo you mentioned but any ammo?

No, lol it was like #18/20. Was running a whole box thru it. Make sure she was ready for dog walking operations haha.

Around 60 fmjs, and 18 hollow points this trip, 100 fmjs the first trip. About 178 total on 2 range visits.

It was a new batch of ammo. But, according to spec, well below pressure thresholds.

Considering you'd fired other ammo I'd be in touch with the manufacturer of the ammo, supervel in this case. It definitely seems like a double charged round caused the failure.

I'd be in contact with supervel over it. Hopefully they will do the right thing and replace your 36.

The gun is definitely +P rated. @chuckneagle18 , that’s enough damage to suggest that the ammo was insanely pressurized. Double +P charge by an employee at 4:45pm on a Friday. I’d bet the farm on it. Super Vel? Never heard of them. That doesn’t mean they’re bad, but it does make me wonder if they have checks in place to keep their employees from making dynamite sticks that fit in revolvers.

Ok, that makes me feel better. I don’t have as much knowledge on who all is making ammo anymore since I’ve been out of the retail firearms side for over a decade, but I’d never heard of that manufacturer either. @David Simerly and I hypothesized that it was a double charge, too.

Ever with a double charge, those guns are tested for it. This had to have been something weird.

Well the gun was fine until it wasn’t. Only a serious pressure spike would get it there. The gun didn’t magically cause the pressure spike mid session/mid box. Only ammo can do this.
