On rounds, again, go through the process and see what your rifle says. My first year I shot the Hornady ELDX 200GR with great success, from a Vaale size animal with one round at just under 500 yards in a high wind, to a single shot takedown of a huge Cape Eland, in total brought 16 animals of to the salt in half as many days, and the count didn’t matter, the experience was amazing.

Last trip I did the work at the range and the Barnes (Vortex, not hand load) 180GR TTSX put a much tighter pattern on the target, so I took that and in country I had even higher degree of success, felt like the best hunting I’ve ever achieved.
My family and I are going in April and due to the folly of not using a hunting travel agent are now unable to bring our own rifles. I talked with everyone from Crusader at DSC and interestingly they said they use a lot of Hornady ELDX and 300WM. I’m left handed and they don’t have any left handed rifles but I can overcome that. Also I’m primarily going after Vaal Rhebuk and Eland so the ELDX has me a little concerned with the eland. I’ve only used the 200gr ELDX in 300WSM on deer and aoudad. Even though all animals were dead instantly an eland is like at least 10 mature whitetail. It’s good to hear you had good results.

A good hunting travel agent is easily worth the money...

My first trip to Africa- June 2021 I did everything including gun permits and flights (including permits through Amsterdam). I never expected Qatar to change a rule in Jan 2026. From now on I will use a hunting travel agent. They’re all fighting Qatar right now though.

I'm curious... because, as far as I know, the best flight by far is the direct one out of Atlanta that lands right in Jburg.

Delta is not flying the day we want to leave. Also, delta first/business class is significantly more expensive than Qatar or Turkish. Apparently the best option would have been united.

Also, apparently the US has caused some problems with suppressors being brought into RSA according to multiple travel agents at DSC

What were the multiple travel agents at DSC saying about traveling with suppressors?

We've taken cans to RSA multiple times, never any issues. What's the chatter?

Something about putting the suppressor on a different 4457 than the rifle honestly I had resigned to not taking one this year, so I didn’t listen to the degree I normally would.

Basically a dispute between CBP here and RSA following rules they were given.

I always put them on a different 4457, (gamesmanship, the system teaches creativity) not a single person, this side or that side of the Atlantic has ever even known I have a can, or cans, in my rifle box. The only thing anyone has ever cared about is a rifle serial number. Having said that, the cans are not on the rifles, they are in a separate pouch with other items, sling, bipod, etc. I also have a copies of my tax stamps with me, just in case. Is CBP searching everything, or is that being done in South Africa? Take your can, everyone within earshot will appreciate it. I'll be in Limpopo this August, rifles will be properly silenced.

This is a good way to have your ducks in a row without allowing the opportunity for things to be more complicated than they need to be.
