I mentioned this in another thread. I tried it once out of Cancun. It was a nightmare. Our oldest came down with a flu on the trip. We forced him to take the cab with us to the boat and he blew chunks all over the cab and then proceeded to puke on the beach for an hour or so. My wife held up at a local bar and drank Coronas while I took my two youngers kids out.
We went out to a spot and the guide spent an hour or so with my middle son and I teaching us how to dive. It was shocking how quickly I could pick up the breathing and diving, I had snorkeled a little but not much. It was really rough out, by the time we got to fish our oldest said F that so my two kids sat on the boat while I attempted to spear fish. We tried two spots and the guide kind of left me in the dust, I was in decent shape but it was a tough breathing in the rough water and keeping up with him. After an hour or so I called it a day. So we got a expensive boat ride and some rough snorkeling in. I think the guide shot at one fish, we were in 20-30 ish feet of water.
All that said I really want to try it again. Problem is I am not 48 and in worse shape than what I was back then. We are heading down to Riveria Maya in a month. Found another guy that runs trips out of Playa del Carmen. I am hoping the water is a little nicer down there because you have Cozemel there, I snorkeled off Cozemel years ago and it was an awesome experience.
I have emailed back and forth with Spearfishinggaribe. While I get we cannot control the weather he said they have some reefs that are 15' that we can try and they have some deeper waters that the fish are close to the surface.
Should I give this another shot or try something different? I like fishing but I love hunting so I think it would be a cool mix.
Sorry for the book thanks.
