Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.
Q: How many injections has it taken Wiley to get an ass like a $40 mule?
A: This is obviously a question from @petercorreale. Anyway, we have it on good authority that @wileywatson’s ass is organic. Yoga.
Q: Daniel Defense, worth the money? Got a line on one.
A: Not really. Solid? Sure. Overpriced, absolutely. Bravo Company is a far better option.
Q: Schoby and Hunter S. Thompson alone together for 24 hours. Who comes out alive?
A: Hunter S. Thompson would look like a shriveled-up alien on its deathbed if he tried to keep up with @schoby375 on a trip to the spirit world. He’s been to the other side more times than we can count.
Q: Best everyday carry from CZ?
A: For now a P10C or a Shadow 2 Carry. Hoping CZ is working on an entry for a CCW 9mm category.
Q: Last impulse buy?
A: A rifle. It’s always a rifle.
Q: .22 mag/LR for ditch tigers, coons, etc?
A: Rugged Suppressors Occulus or SilencerCo Sparrow or Q El Camino. Get any of them from Silencer Shop.
Q: Since none of you are asking, the total headcount for the Nilgai cull hunt was 50. A few bonus species were picked up as several animals escaped the next-door high fence. They were safer over there. Meat is being donated to those in need, and we all have plenty headed our way for weekly tacos. Film coming.
Q: Any opinions on Magellan from Academy? I’m liking one of their coats a lot.
A: Their breathable waders are actually very solid cheapies for a few seasons. Otherwise, unknown.
Q: Build your own PCC for fun, what specs?
A: Just buy the new Taurus RPC or Springfield Armory Kuna. Don’t build a 9mm AR. So dumb.
Q: 45 Colt +P, 30-30, 308, or 45-70 for hunting coastal Oregon? Sub-$1,500 budget.
A: Henry Rifles .45-70.
Q: Optic recommendations for an old lever-action Marlin 30-30?
A: EOTech Vudu 1-10.
Q: EDC a 1911 Government .38 Super crazy? Or laps?
A: Pretty dumb.
Q: How difficult is it to find 300 PRC in South Africa?
A: Safari Outdoor in Pretoria will have it. Say hello to Marco for us.
Q: I’ve never been to Africa; this may be dumb? But do you all carry backup pistols on safari?
A: We do not.
Q: Are the Rolex waitlists getting longer or shorter at all?
A: Getting longer. Call Gunderson’s Jewelers. Ask for Bre.
Q: Is there going to be another Outrider Nilgai cull hunt?
A: There has never been an Outrider Nilgai cull.
Q: How are the Nilgai to hunt? Wild and turned on? Or not so much?
A: Very switched on. Very tough animal.
Q: What rifles were used by Terry and Christian on the Zambia buffalo hunt?
A: @christian_craighead: Mauser Original Diplomat in 416 Rigby. @terry.houin: Rigby x FE Rogue in 416 Rigby.
Q: Where was Nilgai cull?
A: South Texas.
Q: I never received the Q1 magazine, but I’m Canadian. When should I bug the Gimp?
A: Now.
Q: Ruger M77 RSM in 416 Rigby or 458 Lott?
A: Either. The RSM is an overlooked rifle.
Q: The only thing that scares me to no end in Africa is the Black Mamba; ever seen one?
A: Worst thing ever invented. Have only stepped over sheds.
Q: Need a high-volume large-game hunt for a bachelor party?
A: Pigs at @hunt_fe_hill.
Q: The Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in 416 Rigby any good?
A: They do it in 416 Rem Mag. Yes, it’s a very good rifle.
Q: Wife surprised me with a GW Magnus MTX 6.5 PRC. Scope Rec? Mark 5, NX8, Khales?
A: Khales K328i.
Q: I never see anybody wearing snake boots in Africa. Isn’t that a good way to die or lose a leg?
A: Ten-mile walks in snake boots would be worse than getting bitten.
Q: Can you list the calibers and setups used to unalive 50 Nilgai.
A: Several @unpossible_by_q rigs in 8.6, supers and subs. Rigby x FE Rogue 300 Win Mag from @riversandglen. Henry x FE Crusr 45-70 with Aimpoint Acro. Gunwerks 300 Win Mag with Revic Optics.
Q: Ballpark pricing for African hunt?
A: It’s always doable with whatever you have in your kid’s college fund.
Q: Having hard time finding Winchester Model 70 in 375 or 416. Any recs on stores to buy from?
A: They’re all over gunsinternational.com.
Q: Would you put a Leupold Mark 5 3.6-18×44 on a Fix or a Kahles equivalent? Any other recs?
A: I do have that exact Leupold on a Fix. The Q is a very light gun, so go with the Leupold instead of the Kahles to keep it set up as a hiking rig.
Q: Rossi dropping soon?
A: ish.
Q: Ideal rifle to keep in a 1953 Jeep M38?
A: Springfield Armory M1A Tanker.

A: Neither.
Q: Why aren’t we taking Baja?
A: Because the West Coast can’t have nice things.
Q: Any testing done with the 7mm BC rounds yet?
A: Yes, standby for a full report.

Q: Thoughts on Cowboy Action Shooting?
A: You mean adult cosplay mixed with larping? Pass.
Q: Opinion on wearing a nice watch in the field? It’s no doubt a tool, but I hear both sides.
A: Wear the watch.
Q: Any new summer clothes coming out?
A: Yep. We have plenty of summer products lined up.
Keep an eye on our Instagram stories each Sunday for a chance to participate and, most likely, be humiliated by our fearless leader, @fieldethos.
