Just started reading Three Sips of Gin by Timothy Bax. Been meaning to read it for a long time. Plenty more on special operations to mention.

A few other good ones I've read over the years:

The Call of the Wild by Jack London
Touching the Void by Joe Simpson
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan

Probably never get to all the books I should.

Recently finished The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare by Damien Lewis. Its a look at Churchill's secret warriors which gave birth to the SAS/SBS
Rogue Heroes by Ben Macintyre is a great read (and also the basis for the BBC series). Killing Rommel by Steven Pressfield is a semi-fictional novel from the period that is also extremely good. Crazy what the LRDG/SAS was able to do with so few resources. They might not have invented asymmetric warfare, but they had a damn good time at it.

Current Roster is:

Novels:
"The Day of the Jackal" and "The Odessa Files" both by Frederick Forsyth.
"Eaters of the Dead" - Michael Crichton
"The Lion's Gate" - Steven Pressfield
"Arundel" - Kenneth Roberts

Non fiction:
"The Hero with a Thousand Faces" - Joseph Campbell
"The Paradox of Choice" - Barry Schwartz
"The Nature of Oaks" - Douglas Tallamy

Started 2026 off by re reading Blood Meridian. Currently co reading Empire of The Summer Moon, and Small Unit Actions During The German Campaign In Russia. After those are closed up I don't know. The theme for 2026 is early frontier and military strategy.

The day of the jackal is a fantastic read

As I sort through my unread book stacks, which double as side tables currently, I’m getting my 2026 line up ready.

Here’s the list so far.

-Lords of the fly by Monte Burke
-East of Eden by John Steinbeck
-Lonesome Dove (for the second time) by Larry McMurtry
-White Heat by Marco Pierre White
-whatever else I unearth this year

What is everyone else reading this year?
I really like Steinbeck's East of Eden.. I'm a Steinbeck fan in general (Grapes of Wrath, Travels with Charley, etc.)
