"There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games." - Ernest Hemingway

I got into Formula 1 about 20 years ago and have been a passionate fan ever since. This season looks to be crazy due to the entirely new rules and car designs.

Any other fans on here? Thoughts on the upcoming season?

Yes.

Our timelines are similar. Schumacher at Ferrari was peak F1.

New regs look interesting. Active aero is something they should have done on the last generation.

They should ditch the battery requirement altogether .

I agree on ditching the battery shit, I feel like it's ruining the sport or at least making it less enjoyable. It should be about the machines and the driver, I'm reading it's now more about strategy and battery management

The very first F1 race I went to was in Indianapolis with BMW when they had a team. We stayed in the Marriott with the BMW team and Ferrari were also staying in the hotel. On Saturday morning, my wife and I got in the elevator only to realize we were riding down with both Michael and Ralf Schumacher!! I managed not to geek out and just said good morning. They were both very friendly and nice.

We went back two years later (2006) and stayed in the same hotel as McLaren. We went to a steak house for dinner and ended up sitting next to all the F1 commentators

I’ve gotten into it the past couple of seasons.

Have always been a huge NASCAR fan and started watching F1 with my son.

I dig it, but wish there was more head to head racing. Still bounce back and forth between the two, and while I dig them both, I think u still prefer NASCAR over F1.

I used to watch Nascar but it felt sort of boring until the very end. I love F1 because every track is different, the cars turn left and right, and they run in the rain (to a point). I just worry that this year's new rules are going to dilute the racing

Agree about this season. From everything Ive seen the new rules further neutered the combustion side in favor of battery. So much that Verstappen said could as well be FormulaE. Such a shame. Maybe the EV vehicle market failure will make them rethink, but not holding my breath. V10 days are long gone.

Like a lot of guys, I’ve drifted in and out of F1 over the years. I’ll tune in hard for a season, then tag out when the rules shift, a favorite driver moves on, or the grid just feels different. Something always pulls me back though a new storyline, a personality, a team with something to prove, a new friend or co worker who brings up the hobby/interest.

I’m genuinely excited to see Bottas run with Cadillac. There’s a steadiness to him. A humility. The kind of presence that reminds you this sport, for all its technology and politics, is still about men who love to drive fast cars and have fun on and off the track.

Guys like that keep it grounded. They keep it human. Little less about the dollars and brands.

Agree about Cadillac and while I like Bottas, I'm watching for Perez. I feel like he totally got shafted by Ferrari and has something to prove. I hope they do well!
