I was witness to this @Ron Dan - I’m not confident a boat of rum drinking pirates could take on Dubin toe to toe, but @Tony Caggiano gave it a valiant effort, he was sort of like the dog in the movie Vacation, he stayed up for a long time, smile and all, until he just couldn’t….
Dubin’s got that Carnegie Hall method for Mai Tais. Practice practice practice.

Wait @Ron Dan - are we still talking favorite cocktails, or did you stray to what attracts you when attending mixed divorcee crochet class? I think with your skills and looks, we need to get your objective set on some higher rings…

And one of those radioactive cherries

The dude was talking about things that grinds his gears for old fashioneds. Here are mine: a splash of club soda, radioactive cherries, muddling fruit of any kind in there (especially oranges), and when they don’t stir it enough to get that drink mixed and cold. God forbid they shake it and serve it to me with a foam layer on it.

I love you brother, I’m just sayin’ it sounded like something the infamous @Ron Dan might have uttered headed in to a target rich environment.

Now, on old fashioned recipes:

Great bourbon - it matters
Fig syrup - not simple syrup
Jalapeño bitters
Luxardo cherries
Blood orange - a squeeze for the juice, a touch to the rim, a rind for the glass
Shaken on ice, poured on a block

Lots of interesting options, as one might expect coming from such an interesting crowd! Some I've read on this thread I'm looking forward to trying!
At the end of the day it's about enjoying the moment and enjoying the friends sharing the moment and feeling good about yourself and your relationship with them!
I've attached a couple pics, one is actually me, and one is who I see myself as after a few cocktails 🤣
I'll let you decide if there's a resemblance 😂

Let me keep drinking to see if the resemblance materializes. How many is a "few cocktails" before you think you're him?

@Ron Dan - you always have an open invite to Club 446, unofficial HQ for Fuckery, Inc. and Task Force 64, we have a chair for you on the porch, a chilled glass, always a warm meal, and a comfy bed - in all this weird wacko left coast craziness.

My dude is out here trying to get lit up with some Long Islands. I like it.

Lived in Madison WI for a summer internship during college. Brothers had a specific drink special every night. Thursday was long island's for 2 bucks. Those were pretty good days.

I made about 10k that summer internship and went back to college with maybe 2. That was a good summer.

A good smoke old fashion is always a plus. Kind of figured it out at home and then the ones I order don't seem to live up the ones that I make myself. As a WI born person I apologize to the world what they did to old fashions, if you know you know. It goes back to another one of those drinks you did in college and when you grow up and try them again you wonder WTF was I thinking.

The local Mexican place where we live makes a mean shaker margarita. The best part is I get about 4 out of my wife and I ordering one each. The personal one is 3 so I get all those and then I can normally get another out of my wife.

Depends on the setting and mood:
I have a lot of similar go-to’s but not previously mentioned are paper planes and transfusions.

Both are great. Tequila transfusions on the golf course are good.

Black Manhattan. Kick the sweet vermouth for an amaro (use Fernet.) Not too sweet, minty and earthy, and usually gets you on the bartender's good side if it's a cocktail bar worth going to.
