No issues in transit. The only thing anyone in South Africa or more recently, Mexico had any interest in was the rifle’s serial number. There has only been one time in Atlanta where a CBP officer opened up my tripod case for just a moment.
Love it @Bill Mazelin

My current long gun case is set up to take rifle / scope (bolt out), spotting scope, bipods, tools, ammo, tripod and sling. This is somewhat my North American travel set up, elk, mule deer, based on what I know I’ll carry in the field.

Foam is relatively cheap, so I keep tinkering. My goal is one 2 rifle case, one long gun case, one short or break down case, the “Box”, use different foam for different choices, leverage three boxes - foam, especially closed cell, easy to store, keeps dry, lightweight - per the above experiment - pretty much there.

For Africa, I don’t usually bring my tripod or spotting scope, use the PH’s normally, nor the ammo as I pack that separately. For there, I generally like to carry my bino’s in my backpack, old habits die hard, but I have played around with making an Africa foam that has a large pocket for gear, which means less in a duffle, or maybe no duffle and just a slightly larger backpack - you inspired me to take a crack at that today.

The joy we get to keep trying to make life simple…..
