Throwing out a recommendation...

I have owned many lever guns over my time, including several Winchesters, Henrys, and Marlin's (all generations).

If you have a chance, pick up one of the newer Ruger Marlins... I think they are some of (if not the best) lever guns that have ever been made. The .30-30 Ruger Marlin I used to have was the most accurate and smoothest lever gun I have ever owned.

This one has the most meaning to me because it was a gift from a bunch of my best friends for my 30th birthday. It’s a really cool Alaskan takedown in 45 colt.

I love my Henry All-Weather in .45-70. It's my favorite gun to shoot. Only changes I've made are the larger Henry larger opening lever, and Skinner sights, peep in the back and a taller blade up front. If I was going to be buried, this is the gun I'd be buried with

IMG_2670.jpegHere are two of mine I currently have. The top one in a 1951 built Marlin 336 RC, in 30-30 Win. I got from my father-in-law a few years before he passed. I’ve used it to take a white tail doe, and a mountain lion here in Wyoming. The bottom is I a generation 1 Marlin guide gun in 45-70 Govt. I’ve used that one to take a wild pig on the central coast area of California, and a Cape buffalo in South Africa.

Man I love that buffalo pic! Such a cool setup!

When we lived in Henderson, NV, I had Jerimy West of Wild West Guns go through the action, add the XS sight rail, front sight and a few other specialty parts. The optic is an out of production Leupold VX-R, 1.5-5X33mm "Scout Scope" with the firedot duplex reticle. In reality it's an extended eye relief optic. Buffalo Bore ammo, 430gr hard cast lead, LBT (Lead Bullet Technologies) LFN (Long Flat Nose). A single broadside shot to the boiler room, he ran off about 100 yards, tipped over, death bellowed for a short time, then we collected him.

The optic was one of my favorite parts of the setup. I considered that optic for a bit on my Ruger GunSite Scout.

That Buffalo Bore ammunition is the truth and XS Sights is my go-to for rails on lever guns.
