I love this thread... I keep stumbling over cool knife projects from the past. I did a batch of these for Matt back in 2011 and delivered to Denver for what ended up being his last fight in the UFC.

Way back I trained with Matt at a special appearance thing he did.. we were grappling and I remember being mortified because he had "mat rash", I was afraid that I was I was going to catch it 😂
The other thing that frustrated me was he is shorter than I, but pretty stocky and I've never grappled with anyone as strong as him.
I would try to sink a hold in him and he would just lock up and I couldn't budge him 😂
The guy was a beast, humble and a true champion!

One of these days I’ll have to tell you the story of the time I almost accidentally picked a fight with Matt at a bar.
I gotta hear that story. Matt is a lot of fun, but man...he'd be real close to the end of the list of guys I'd ever want to get sideways with in a bar... hahaha

Yep. He was a ball of muscle... I will never understand how he fought at 170... he and his twin brother Mark both had to be walking around at close to 220... I recall a time we were at a gym filming some sparring footage. My cousin (family business) was in the ring with him and Matt talked him into holding the kick shield for a liver kick. I still grin every time I think about getting to watch my cousin's life change that day....

I dug a little deeper in the safe and found my grandfather's knife. An old Boker. He carried this with him everywhere and used the hell out of it. I am also pretty sure this is the same knife he used to pretend to stab me and my cousins . I think he was pretending. Im guessing it is from the late 40's.

Maybe not rare now but reckon they will be. Snagged these Larue S30V Battle Knives awhile back. One for me and one for my son albeit he will have to wait awhile since he’s only 5. This is Marks play on MSG Robert Horrigans design. It’s a lot of knife for sure. Funny thing was since I live about 5 miles from his shop he had an employee hand deliver it one Friday afternoon to make sure i had it before father’s day that coming Sunday. I was already pretty loyal to the brand but that solidified it. I had CrankyTexan Holsters make a couple matching kydex sheaths as well. View attachment 2964
I have a Horrigan I got from John at blade and couple years ago and knew Bob personally these knives are great with an amazing backstory.

Now THIS is a cool knife.

Ended up being one of the nicest guys in the bar
That doesn't surprise me... He has got an ornery streak a mile wide, a great sense of humor and plenty of tricks up his sleeve... I wasn't sure which direction he was going to go in your story, but I figured it was good... haha He and I were both farm boys that ended up in the industry and the company I worked for had the logo on his shorts for a number of years, so he and I got to be buddies over the years. If you ever get a picture made with him, and his arm goes around your back....make sure your floating ribs are prepared...

I don't have a picture but one night a buddy pulled out two knives that had been passed down in the family. One was a rifle mounted bayonet and the other was an officers issued side carry knife. His relatives were active in the German political party in the 30s and 40s 🤔, not sure how he ended up with the pieces but it was a wild thing to pull out and see.

I don't think it's really a "rare" knife because it's commercially produced by CRKT, but this "Grandpa's Favorite" with stag handle and Russ Kommer designed blade has been on my Ruger Vaquero cartridge belt for years. I've never seen anyone else with one... The blade takes and holds a keen edge, and I love how the sheath can be used for either horizontal or vertical carry (I prefer horizontal when riding horseback). I also like that it has a cartridge holder for a pair of cartridges. The magnums won't fit in the shell carrier, but any of my saddle gun cartridges fit well, i.e., .300 Savage, .38-55 Win, or my .30-30 Win.

Bill Bagwell (RIP) Frontier Bowie, these things were hen’s teeth even while he was alive

This one has quite a story too. As it was told to me, Bagwell made and gave this knife to a former French Foreign Legionnaire who wrote for Soldier of Fortune, bringing it with him to several countries. After he began experiencing some “mental health issues” (what I was told, anyway) he gave it to LtCol Robert K. Brown who carried it with him while visiting El Salvador for an article. I bought it from RKB while visiting with him 2-3 years ago

I hear these are awesome. I’ve wanted one for a while but I’d never end up carrying it for anything. Really cool for a zombie apocalypse though.

I agree i don’t use it often. I gutted one deer with it just to ensure i used it for something. Terrible application for that knife way too long for that, but it was done. Fun to have but agree not really used for much. The sweet T though man that’s a perfect sized user.
