Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.

Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.

For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.

We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.

*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.

Sunday Q&A

Q: Are you a punk rocker?

A: First skateboard at 6. Watched Thrashin’ hoping to joust in a pool one day. First surfboard at 9 shaped by a family friend. Mom was an absolute saltwater bum, so lots of days at the beach. Lots of 80’s/90’s sake & surf vids. Punk music was in all of it. Still my favorite music. Never a punk rocker. Just a punk kid turned punk dad.

Q: Will FE bring back the bighorn caps?

A: Yes. Within the next two weeks.

Q: Planning first hunt with Crusader Safaris. Worried about firearm logistics. Take my rifle or use theirs?

A: If you’d gone through FE Outrider, you wouldn’t have worries about taking your own. Use theirs.

Q: Who is next up on The Order of Rogues?

A: @christian_craighead if we can fix the audio. We only have three full-time film/audio guys currently fucking this up for everyone.

Q: My FE ads are all of Don Jr. with buffalo and the extra small shirt on, but speaking Spanish …

A: It’s called a vibe. We’ll look into this.

Q: Recs on a 556 pistol with the shortest barrel possible?

A: No.

Q: Any info on the ALPS pouches heist?

A: @Petercorreale stole the truck full of Alp and another truck full of Adderall. He’s been abusing both and tunneling between the two containers nonstop even though they’re both above ground.

Q: Why do you temp us with photos like this?

A: That beautiful woman would cut you stem to stern. Thought she was going to do it to me when I was taking that photo.

Q: What’s the benefit, other than one suppressor for multi guns, of using quick attachments/muzzle brakes?

A: Overall length when not in use.

Q: Best hunt/adventure for a broke college student?

A: Public land Coues deer would be a fun one.

Q: Go-to Browning A5 gunsmith?

A: Cox in Simpsonville, SC.

Q: Grew up with a .30-06 (first rifle). What does a 300 WM do in NA that an ’06 doesn’t?

A: Shoots the same size or heaver bullets faster, flatter, and with more energy on target.

Q: Is the middle-class dead?

A: No, but we’re certainly working overtime to support a lot of people that don’t deserve it.

Q: Recommended defensive handgun courses?

A: You asked your fiancé for permission to buy an Omega watch. She’ll tell you to use the course you have at home. (It’s just your paintball gun from 8th grade)

Q: Thanks for the reminder to dye my flesh, deny myself and pick up my cross and bear it for Christ.

A: I just roasted you about a paintball gun and then you go and remind me that we’re brothers in Christ? I love you. Be blessed. Go run 3 laps.

Q: Are any of the ‘exotic’ hunts in Texas worth the money? Or just keep saving for Africa?

A: Save.

Q: Best place to hunt in Texas for upland with your bird dog?

A: South Texas.

Q: Any experience with Uberti? Thinking about that 1885 Courteney Stalking Rifle in 45-70.

A: They’re solid.

Q: Should I just suck it up and go ahead and drop the money for a Winkler knife?

A: Yes. You’ll have forever unless you lose it.

Q: What’s Terry’s daily driver?

A: He’s building a Tacoma right now. Lots of updates on the FE Society website.

Q: If you already owned a rifle in 7mm Mag, would you buy another rifle for elk?

A: Yes, because I wouldn’t shoot a 7 Mag.

Q: What ballistic app are you guys using? Or Kestrel with applied ballistics?

A: I use the SIG Sauer app paired with the Kilo 8K rangefinder. It put two holes in an audad at 503 yards with a .308 recently, and I have a kill with this ranging setup at over 1,200 yards. Very reliable.

Q: Still need to scope my M70 Alaskan 375 H&H … recs to keep it somewhat value?

A: EOTech Vudu.

Q: Best starter rifle/caliber for most North American game?

A: There is no best, but a Browning X-Bolt in .308 is hard to beat.

Q: Who makes the best .300 Win Mag right now?

A: There is no “best.” Lots of great options at different price points. The Springfield Waypoint is certainly one to consider, as is the Steyr Pro Hunter.

Q: First tax refund in years thanks to the Big Beautiful Bill. Whole house generator or Mauser 98 Std Diplomat?

A: Electricity is overrated. Get the Mauser.

Q: What would you get for hearing protection/hearing aids in the field? Phantoms for that?

A: SoundGear Phantoms.

Q: What sets a Rigby apart from everything else? Is it just that extra 1/10th?

A: Quality and legacy.

Q: Thoughts on the CZ P-01?

A: Very solid.

Q: What AR to get for your first one?

A: Entry level: Springfield Armory. Hard use: Bravo Company USA.

Q: Thoughts on Sauer rifles?

A: Very good. We’re partial to the FE x Sauer Exception on the Rivers and Glen website. 9.3×62 is a cartridge for serious rifle shooters.

Q: I just got laid off. Late 30s. Building a family. I’m not going back to a W2. Any advice?

A: Advice would be to feed your family without letting pride get in the way.

Q: Any mods on the Grenadier yet?

A: About to add a Leitner Designs roof rack with pdos. Not a ton of cargo space in the Grenadier.

Q: Can we get a podcast with Omega Watch Guy? I’d like to hear how the laps are helping?

A: Absolutely.

Q: Thoughts on the Steyr Pro Hunter vs the Tikka T3X?

A: Both are great. The Steyr Pro Hunter is a much more substantial rifle and it’s heavier as a result.

Q: Any chance of an FE cast iron line?

A: No.

Q: Preferred optic for Scout-type rifle or run irons?

A: Aimpoint Micro T2.

Q: When I finally book my croc hunt in Moz’ with y’all, can I pay extra for Uncle T to come along?

A: He’d appreciate it if you did. Message @outrideradventures.

Q: Where can I get a gun rack like the one in the background from your podcast?

A: @africansportingcreations.

Q: What is your favorite part about the landscape in Africa?

A: The beer.

Q: Worst hangover and what trip, and how’d you shake it?

A: Many years ago, I threw up over the side of my bed and it got all over my dog. The hangover was horrible, but it paled in consideration to the guilt. Such a great dog.

Q: What’s your Holy Grail hunt?

A: Elephant with iron sights.

Screen-Shot-2026-03-17-at-12.04.01-PM-1024x708.png

Q: .270 thoughts? What size of game starts being “too large” for it?

A: It’s a great cartridge. I wouldn’t go shoot an elk with one, but many people have.

Q: If I have a 300 WM, is there any reason to have another 30-cal mag type rifle? Any of the PRCs?

A: Yes. The 300 PRC is a big step up in horsepower. Definitely worth owning. Hornady got it right with the PRCs.

Q: Going to South Africa for my first safari in ’27. What are the FE recommended beers?

A: Lion Lager and Castle Lights. Windhoek is an import, but it’s great.

Q: Once the regime falls, what hunts is Outrider planning in Iran?

A: Ibex.

Q: Anyone at FE have a UTV preference? Or is it just one with a cooler of beer in it?

A: The Kawasaki Mule is my personal favorite. Very reliable and quiet. Not going to break any speed records, but it’s a great hunting rig.

Q: How long of a lap is sufficient? Pre-ran 16 quarter-mile laps before asking.

A: A lap should be less than 100 yards. It’s one lap around the exterior of the house.

Q: Is there anything wrong with having pistols mainly only from Springfield?

A: Nope. Springfield Armory is a go-to of ours.

Q: Best SBR weapon light you recommend?

A: SureFire Scout.

Q: Do I pick up the FE J-frame revolver first or the Bliksem?

A: The Mossberg Bliksem is a must have for drone defense. The Smith & Wesson Tropical is a must have for Hawaiian print shirt days. Both are equally important given the state of the world.

Keep an eye on our Instagram stories each Sunday for a chance to participate and, most likely, be humiliated by our fearless leader, @fieldethos.
