NY Archery Bird
well, its a bit of a testament to how uneducated our birds our.. That was the first year they opened the season for us on Eastern Long Island....That is a hell of an accomplishment, especially without a blind.
I love it hahaAnother NY Archery bird….
cool mountIowa. I have never put anything in a book but I register that one for my son. It’s the 9th heaviest bird registered in Iowa. We weighed it on 3 different scales cause we didn’t believe it. Crazy thing is it was shot late 4th season so it was probably heavier early. Probably should have found a registered scale cause one of ours said 32 lbs. I took the lowest when registering it. I posted it before but it’s the best mount we have
A couple more archery birds from seasons past….
They can be the most miserable creatures in the world at timesThis picture sums up perfectly my feelings on turkey hunting. It’s embarrassing that a bird so stupid can outwit me one season after another. Thank God for two year old toms, or I’d never kill a bird.

For any of you guys that haven't watched it......

Midwest birds can be slobs...of my top 10 largest birds I would guess 8 have come from Missouri and nearby states.Spring gobblers are one of my favorite things to chase. I killed my Merriams in Wyoming via the old shoot & scoot method. Beautiful bird. My last two Ohio gobblers have been monsters. Two years ago I shot “The Ostrich.” He was 25 lbs., had an 11” beard and 1 3/16” hooks. He came out in the field 200 yards away with 5 jakes and strutted for what seemed like an eternity to 30 yards before he got a face full of Hevi-Shot. Last year’s bird must’ve been “The Ostrich’s” heir apparent. He came in silent to my gobbler decoy after the rain cleared out and had the same fate. He wasn’t quite as heavy, but also had an 11” beard and 1 1/8” sharp hooks. I’m looking at heading to Florida in 2027 to get my Osceola and then to Texas for a Rio and helicopter hog hunt to finish my slam after that.View attachment 3349View attachment 3350View attachment 3351View attachment 3352View attachment 3353

Haha the 1, 2, 3 Bang is always an adventure with the adrenaline flowing. Nice birds!I’ve killed a handful of turkeys so far.
Was hunting with my brother, he was first gun, it if two came in we would go for a double.
I was to take the left bird, him the right.
Coming in strutting, they swap sides at the last minute.
We pop them, they are flopping.
As I collect my shit he walks up to them and says “I shot a little bird, yours is huge”.
His bird weighed in at 24lbs even, with 1.25in spurs and a 10in beard.
Mine was 26 3/4 lbs, 1.5in spurs and an 11.5 in beard (which is basically a unicorn in NY.
Frame on the bird was huge. Easily 8 inches longer than the second gobbler, laid side by side.
To this day he still claims I screwed him on. The deal
This is awesome!!! Thats the dream!I love turkey season! We've had the same camp since 1989 (right after I got out of the Marines)... "Turkey camp" is usually the first big campout and family hunting trip of the season other than our extended weekend "Varmint Safari's" around Washington State, staying in no-tell motels, and blasting songdogs and battle cats...
We usually turn our annual turkey camps into "cast and blast" events. Chasing Tom's, calling in yodel dogs and fly fishing for monster trout at Rocky Ford..
Our camp is usually a huge party in the National Forest... Been going there since 1989 and NEVER had another camper outside of our group show up... Generally ours is a group of family and friends and the meadow we camp in holds all the RVs, campers and wall tents that everyone brings.
We usually do group dinners and huge bonfires, during the day the kiddos ride bikes, play games or we all go target practicing. Before I retired I'd always bring some of my issued full auto stuff up there and everyone loved shooting that!
There's generally between 9 and 16 people showing up to Turkey camp. We'll be heading back for the opener on April 15th...
I've hunted turkey in NC, GA, MT, ID and obviously here in WA.. thoroughly enjoy it and I enjoy making my own box calls.
Awesome story… Just a couple Ginzo’s from the Bronx long strokin’ a set of long beards!!! Atta boys!!!I’ve killed a handful of turkeys so far.
