Let’s see some rare knives. Below is a picture of some rare fun production brand knives I had when I was a buyer and had knives as a one of my categories.

The top knife is a demo knife with clear scales from Kershaw that would show how their speedsafe system works.

The bottom knife is the original prototype of the Emerson trainer series from Kershaw (production knives had blue grips). When Kershaw got the license to do Emerson wave knives, I requested that they start making trainers. Instead of the only Emerson wave trainers that were on the market at $150+, these hit the market at $50-60 and gave a good training option for classes and students.

The middle knife is probably the most rare knife I own. It’s a concept-marked throwing knife from Benchmade. To my knowledge, almost none of these or very few of these exist. They were made for an industry event over a decade ago and I told my buddy from Benchmade that he was going to have to turn a blind eye to me walking away with the knife. IMG_7242.jpeg

Maybe not rare now but reckon they will be. Snagged these Larue S30V Battle Knives awhile back. One for me and one for my son albeit he will have to wait awhile since he’s only 5. This is Marks play on MSG Robert Horrigans design. It’s a lot of knife for sure. Funny thing was since I live about 5 miles from his shop he had an employee hand deliver it one Friday afternoon to make sure i had it before father’s day that coming Sunday. I was already pretty loyal to the brand but that solidified it. I had CrankyTexan Holsters make a couple matching kydex sheaths as well. IMG_2197.jpeg

I always thought these were cool

Some relatively "rare" blades I have:

A TOPS Baja 4.5 with FDE cerakote, presented to me and engraved from when I was an instructor for LEMOS (Law Enforcement Mountain Operations School)

An old Knapp Hunting Kit from Elko, NV (gifted to me by the estate of an old hunting friend and mentor who has passed)

A stainless Spyderco Warrior with Cordura Nylon sheath and Glock mag that I carried on my ship interdiction and vessel assault ops

A folding combat trainer that I made out of some cheap hardware store lock back, I used it and made several others like it for my students back when I was teaching knife defense and edged weapons tactics for the Criminal Justice Training Commission and had a contract teaching 1st Special Forces Group out at JBLM. Beside the folding trainer is a G10 Tanto for when I used to need to get through metal detectors and normal security.

And the final pic includes my grandfather's bayonet from WW1, with my USMC issued Kabar beside it (I always thought I would stick a commie with it, but alas the closest I came was opening a C ration can! I now know where Dr Seuss got his inspiration for the book "Green eggs and ham" though!... In that same photo my old bayonet issued 70 years after my grandfather's hangs and beside it is an AK bayonet, I took off a dead tango. In the background you can see an old Western Knife and Hatchet combo that I used as a kid...

Nothing ultra high-end here but rare because they are blasts from past; “elegant weapons from a more civilized time”

Buck Crosslock designed by the late Kit Carson
Gerber Applegate Covert folder from when Gerber made cool stuff here in the USA
Hiro lockback with abalone inlays
For a short time Outdoor Edge made some knives in Taiwan designed by some notable custom makers like Kit Carson, their Magna which is a rendition of Mr. Carson’s Model 4 GT

Old school Buck collabs were elite! The ole Strider Buck series were the best, especially the Strider Buck Tarani knives.

Here is a bit of a rare bird. This is the Blade Tech Tim Wegner Porfessional Hunter Lite. This one was the budget version of this knife in lockback with polymer scales. I also have the higher end US made version with better steel, G-10 scales and a liner lock. Phenomenal design
Super cool!

It looks very similar to my Mel Pardue Benchmade...

I don’t know if these qualify as “rare”, but I used to diddle around with scrimshaw, here are a couple knives/marlin spikes I did back in the day…
