You probably won’t see themETA on the wax jackets?
For slings, I’m personally a big 2-point sling guy. Originally I was running the legacy Blue Force Gear and Viking Tactics slings. Since Kyle came out with the Ultralight sling, that’s been my favorite. Another good option would be the Edgar Sherman Design ESD Sling. It’s very tidy and simple, which is good for a sling.Couple questions:
- suggestions on a sling for an AR? Brand, double vs single point, etc?
- recommended suppressor covers?
This is great - thanks! For slings, I’m personally a big 2-point sling guy. Originally I was running the legacy Blue Force Gear and Viking Tactics slings. For suppressor covers, I don’t use them on my hunting guns and I only really use them for classes. It’s hard to beat the Armageddon Gear covers. They have sizes for almost everything and offer custom sizes if you can’t find one off the shelf.
Sorry for the delay! We just got back from SHOT.Barrel break-in: Been shooting here in upper MW for over 40 years but never thought about this before: barrel break in on a new rifle, when it's sub-zero temperatures. We whitetail hunt in the -40 wind chill crap, but it's always been with used/hand me-down rifles that are proven. RIFLE: the Lipsey's Ruger Alaskan in 35W, IIRC I have (3) different loads of Buffalo Bore 35W to start with.
A.) Is there such a thing as ruining a new barrel breaking it in, in severe cold?
B.) Which ammo to start with, light to heavy, slow towards the faster rounds, is there a more scientific order for better break-in?
C.) Yup, I would check zero again when it gets to show the best round it likes, when we get above 40degreesF. (Next week sometime...)
D.) Am I being a cunty bitch overthinking this? I'm not into ruining shit and selling it off to an unsuspecting dude....
I wouldn’t overthink it too much. I think you’ll be shocked how well that rifle will shoot with factory ammo. For Whitetail and N. American stuff, I’ve successfully used the Federal Fusion load extensively in their 165gr .308. They make a 200gr 35 Whelen Fusion load that you might want to try out. Let me know how it shoots and post some pics.Less than 400m, whitetail, N American stuff
Life is too short to frown about anything.@Ron Dan - do you ever not smile?
Well, the overthinking part is about doing the break in in these sub-zero temps., got tons of Buffalo Bore, 3 variants IIRC, yup i'll be doing a 60 second review vid. showing how they all group.I wouldn’t overthink it too much. Looking forward to seeing it. When I was living in WY and MT, we would shoot our guns in those temps and I never had any issues. I don’t know the exact science behind it, but I wouldn’t worry about it.Well, the overthinking part is about doing the break in in these sub-zero temps., got tons of Buffalo Bore, 3 variants IIRC, yup i'll be doing a 60 second review vid. showing how they all group.
